Penney Company ♦ Authorizes Special Payment for Associates The b ’ard of directors of the J. C. Penney company has authorized a special payment of an amount equal to two weeks’ pay, for all full-time associates who have been employed for the full ye^r of 1948 and on a proportionate basis for extra and part-time associates and for those employed less than a year. All Penney associates throughout the company share in this payment except those who are members of the management staff and whose earnings are determined largely by the company's long-standing profit- sharing plan. R. N. Blackwelder. manager of the J. C. Penney company store here, said that more than 50.000 Penney associates all over the United States will participate in this payment, in cluding 21 of the Clinton store. He further empha^zed that this was not a Christinas bonus in the usual sense and was non-recurring. It was au thorized in recognition of the unusual bosiness and economic conditions ex isting today. The company some years ago sub stituted a thrift and profit-sharing plan for the more usual Christmas bonus and into tnis plan is annually paid a proportionate share of com pany earnings. The current extra payment,, just announced, is addi tional to these thrift and profit-shar ing benefits. In Memoriam TO DAD Dear Dad, you're just across the way, But we’re sa lonely here each day. j Oh, how we miss your tender smile And haw we dreaded that last mile. Now’, as we stand beside your grave, We carmot say that we are brave, i For painful tears are in our hearts Because from you we had to part. And now we think of many years That yuu have shared our tears. We think of all the things you said As you would rest oar weary heads. So at the end of every day We ll pray to meet you again some day. We pray becaase our hearts are sad, We pray because we miss our Dad. —MRS BEN CAMPBELL ANO CHILDREN. j IB CLIP THIS AD NOW HBBBBBBBB Saturday Onlv — 10 A. M. to 5 I*.
