Boll Weevil Report
Given In County
Last week’s checking on boll*wee-
vil infestation on 10 farms showed
an average of 7.3 per cent square in
festation. with individual farms rang
ing from one per cent to as high as
12 per cent, according to County
Agent C. B. Cannon. During the week
of June 14 the check showed an av
erage of 181 live weevils per acre,
with an average of 90 live weevils
per acre for the week of June 7.
Many farmers are now applying
BHC-DDT, chlorinated camphene, or
chlordane, Mr. Cannon said, and the
checks this week should give some
comparison on results. The past sev
eral hot days have been against the
I boll weevil. When there is a 10 per
cent infestation, he recommends that
dust be applied. Several farmers
have called at the agent’s office for
information card No. 73, “Suggested
Cotton Insect Control Schedules” to
' follow in tjieir boll weevil control
program. The card is simple to fol
low and'Js free for the asking, he
said.
