The Ch-rtmicle)—Taxes collected for
all purposes in Laurens county dur
ing 1947 amounted to $330,452, ac
cording to a report from State Comp
troller General E. C. Rhodes. The’
largest portion of this sum, $179,-
263, was used for the support of
Laurens county schools, and $141,-
997, was collected for county purpos
es. Poll tax collections amounted
harmfed 11,371 acres of timber dur
ing the past month, and a total of
33,823 acres since the beginning of
the fiscal year. This is .29 pfrr cent
of the 11,542,170 acre forest area in
the state.
