Next to Bailey’s Bank Phone 423 though sqme counties have provisos in their supply bills stating that the county contribution ot the wages of the auditor and the treasurer will be reduced in proportion to the amount that the state’s contribution is raised. The increase in the state contribution this year is scaled so j that the smaller counties receive the benefit of the boosted appropriation. The contribution of the state to thej salary of Laurens county’s auditor j and treasurer is raised by $338 from j the present $2,062 each to $2,4001 .each. | The largest amount appropriated ! in the General. Assembly for the J counties is the $1,890,000 allocated j in the deficiency bill for the erection j of county health centers and hospit- I als. This amount may be used by the counties with or without federal matching funds, although it i? par ticularly designed for use under the funds for hospital construction. Each county will obtain $30,000 from the appropriation plus an additional $3,- 000 -for each member of the deie- gatiorr frbifl the cBuhtyv' Laurens county, which has a four-man legis lative delegation, will thus, acquire $42,000 for hospital and health center construction. Municipalities will acquire mo;^ money this year than last from s alcoholic revenues, and countip^will receive-considerably less 1 . Tme state liquor tax distribution x rs redivided by the general appfopriation act for the next fiscaf year, so as to re duce the present 25 per cent alloca tion of the tax to counties to 20 per cent, and to use the five per cent difference to increase the allotment of this revenue to counties from the 1 present ten per cent to 15 per cent. Thus the counties, instead of ob taining $3,500,000 as they would on the 25 per cent allocation basis, will receive an estimated $2,546,000. Much controversy was aroused in the legislature over whether or not the distribution of state income tax revenues to counties would be in creased from seven to ten per cent, which would have raised the county distribution from $1,650,000 to about $2,150,000. The income tax alloca tion to counties was left at the pres ent seven per cent level, but an in creased estimate of revenue from the tax raised the county share from $1,650,000 to $1,875,000. The other allocations of'state reve nues to counties remained about the same, with no changes made by the general assembly. A total of $8,- 944,000 is anticipated in estimated state revenue distributions to coun ties next year, while municipalities will receive about $2,796,500 out of state, income sources. I However, the report recognized (McGee - s Drug Store that its conclusions ‘‘can be noth ing more than a statement of chances.” The report said the farm popula tion probably will continue to de cline, and a trend toward fewer and somewhat larger commercial j farms will continue. • • | “The number of small-family or put* mtlafMUon w ■tor* comfortably, today.
