Tne lesson begins with the thought
' that “kindness and truth” should be
! written in the heart. An honest
j heart is the first requisite to honesty.
Following - this initial thought is a
series of contrasts—between a false
balance and a just one, the integrity
of uprightness and the perversity ol
treachery, the lip of truth and the
lying tongue, the joy of counsellors
of peace and the deceit of those who
devise evil, a faithful witness and
one who lies. ”
In these contrasts we find that
cheating, slander, and false witness
bring the promise of frustration and
the penalty of wickedness. Dishon
esty in business dealings can bring
only a fleeting prosnerityiyThe slan
derer is not enrichlcr'S/ the good
name he steals but he is impover
ished by and by. ,One who deals in
perjury in court commits a crime
and may soon come into the box of
the accused, while the blackness of
