in swimming, boating, canoeing, first
aid, and water safety, it is announc
ed. The camp for South Carolina
will be held at Camp Carolina, Bre
vard, N. C., June 4 to 14, and Au
gust, 16 to 28th.
The cost per student will be $40.00
for the 10 day period, and will in
clude board, lodging, texts, and ina-
terials used, emblems and insignia
earned. Jhe Chapter will send re
presentatives, and would like inter
ested persons to get in contact with
the local chapter, either in Laurens,
or the Branch Office here. Any per
son 18 years of age or older may
attend aquatic school, provided he
or she is in good health and plans
to teach water safety, first aid, or
accident prevention. Students taking
the aquatic course must be reason
ably strong swimmers and be “at
home” in water.,

There is considerable tarlk about
the enormous corporation profits in
the first quarter of this year and
some indications that as a result
prices will start down, led by U. S.
Steel. Experts say that prices must
come down or wages will go up
again starting another spiral. Apd
on advice of federal reserve banks,
member banks are tightening up on
real estate loans. Building costs are
too Jiigh and prices are too high,
andithe lenders do not propose to i
get caught in the inflated values.
The economists profess to set
trouble ahead for the building in
dustry baceuse housing prices are
all out of reason and there has al
ready been a definite drop in new
house purchases—all this in spite of
the high pounding promises made by
the real estate and construction lob-

County Association
To Meet Friday
The Laurens County "Tuberculosis
association will hold its annual meet
ing Friday, April 18, at 8 o’clock in
the community hall in Laurens. A
brief business session will be held, at
which time officers will be elected
and reports given.
Dr. John M. Preston, of -he South
Carolina sanatorium, will speak on
“Modern Ways of Fighting Tuber
culosis,” using projected pictures to
illustrate his talk. Dr. Preston is an
interesting and well-known speaker.
