It is all but fruitless now to re-1 SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHRONICLE
call it. But there may have been a »xhe Paper Everybody Reads”
time, before Russian and American
and British attitudes had crystallized
against separation of the Ruhr from
Germany, when the Big Powers
could have considerably reassured
each other of"their long-range inten
tions simply by an agreement on i
Germany. Unfortunately, that hbui
seems to have passed. The United 5
States, Russia and Britain, against H
French hopes, all opposed the sepa-
ration of the Ruhr from Germany, 1
but all too obviously out of distrust •
for what one or another could ac-'
complish through an international re
gime in the Ruhr.
So we see the Moscow conference,
which was to have been the over
shadowing fact of current history at,
this moment, reduced as it were to a
sort of window on the turbulent i
world scene. Already the reports i §
from Moscow reflect the feelings ofjj|
diplomatists gathered there that 1S
many meetings on the side will be ft
found necessary tp_keep the issues jS
of Moscow in true focus. And al-jft
ready Far Eastern questions have j g
been brought into the debates. ,»
The real task of Moscow is to find | g
a way of getting on together between
the two halves of one world. The
real meaning of Moscow is that no
great nation has yet surrendered to
the proposition that this has become
impossible. Peace - hungry peoples
may well seize on this fact and to the
tenacity of their statesmen add their
own prayerful courage.

Music In the Air
miss jennie veeve smith has rote
another beautiful little ditty en
titled: “jack frost, don’t bite my*
ears.” it will probably be one of the j
song-hits of the year, and will be
close to alexander’s rag-time band,
in fact, it is almost exactly like it,
except the words is different.
miss smith has rote an air-mail
letter to czar petriHo asking permis
sion to have her new number sung
over station “woof” at the county
seat she has agreed to let him have
as many stand-in c.i. o. members as
the auditorium room will hold.
miss smith hopes to see a million
copies of this ditty in print enduring
1947. her royalties will run up into
5 figgers if it goes over like she
thinks it will, the words are found
ed 6n conditions around flat rock
when it is freezing cold and no ear-
muffs in town.
this song will likely put flat rock
on the map. the song has 6 verses
but the secont and fourth and sixth
verses are exactly alike, and they
will be called the chorus ansoforth.
it makes you laff and cry while it
is being sung, especially if it is sung
by miss smith; she acts the part
verry grand.
It Won’t Be Long Now
a large number of flat rock citi
zens are looking forward with much
