It is good to think back over
the events of the past year, and
to pick out those things which
are bright and cheerful. These
occasions overshadow the dark
spots and simplify the task of
forgetting dreams unrealized.
Your thoughtfulness to this or

and because of this we deem
it a privilege to express Sea

Army Asks Hike
In Draft Calls
Washington, Dec. 18.—The war de
partment announced today that it has
asked selective service to increase 1
the army’s Januai’y and February
calls frbm 60,000 to 80,000.
The department said that since last 1
July it has asked selective service for
fewer men than the estitmated re
quirements. The deficits were made
up by combing army units to obtain
men for field service.
By this method, the department;
said the selective service'call had
been held to 60,000 a month, but that ]
it is now necessary to step up the'
calls by 20.000 a month.
It will be determined later, the
department said, whether it will be
necessary to continue the 80,000 rate
in March and April.
Selective service meantime an
nounced that all men under 30 who
had been rejected for military ser
vice since last February 1, except
(those with obvious physical defects
will be reexamined next year.
A selective service official said the
border already in the hands of local
i draft boards applied principally to
j “border line cases.”
