At the recent habeas corpus hear
ing before Judge Steve Griffith in
Newberry, bail was sought and se
cured for Woodrow Wilson Craine
of this city, by Blackwell, Sullivan
and Wilson and O. L. Long, his at
torneys of Laurens. Craine is charg
ed with murder in
the death June 10 of Percy Lee Brig
man, Clinton taxi driver.
The state was represented by So
licitor B. V. Chlapmah'of Newberry,
who presented a half dpzeh or more
affidavits in opposition to the defense
motion.

If Britain’s part in the Pacific war
should ever be one whit less than
Britain’s outrage demands, Churphr
ill will be quick to force a vote of
no confidence. The Labor govern
ment, forced to “go to the country,”
would be defeated in the general
election that wbuld ensue, and

would take over again to press the
