Cromer would continue to work for the best interests of Laurens County and South Carolina; he would want to protect the present surplus in the State treasury as a cushion against a drop in revenue after the war; he would work to make the shift from the present to the post-war period as easy as possible in order to provide returning service men with jobs and a chance to live and support their families in the manner for which they are fighting. He would want to see capital and labor, farmers and public servants, joining hands in a united effort to make Laurens County and the State of South Carolina a better, busier, more productive place in which to live—and let live! More shiploads are following to meet the growing demands of the war fronts, not only in Europe but the Pacific, as well. t_ All out production of telephone equipment fog our. armed forces takes virtually all available manufacturing facilities and manpower, and reserve supplies are about exhausted. The shortage of supplies for hame use has made it impos sible for us to keep up with civilian orders for service. That is why we, ovlr here, must continue to do the best we can with the limited amount of equipment we have on band. We keenly regret that more and more people are having to wait for telephone service, due to the increasing war de mands. But there must be no waiting for the men who fight our battles.
