Second Fatality From
Motor Vehicle Accident

Laurens, March 15.—Frank DeWitt
Davis, 34, of Wattsville, died Mon
day night at the Laurens county hos
pital as the result of injuries he re
ceived Sunday afternoon in a motor
cycle accident near Maddens.
Funeral services /vere^conducled
from Lucas Avenue Baptist church
with the Rev. C. P,' Chastain in
charge, assisted by the Rev. Jodie A.
Martin. Interment was in Rose Hill
cemetery.
According to reports received from
investigating officers, Davis was rid
ing with a group of three other mo
torcyclists, one from^ Wattsville and
two from Union. He was the front |
cyclist coming towards Laurens and!
met a car occupied by Mr. and Mrs.
R. R. Burns and driven by Mr.,
Burns. Mr. Burns was quoted as say- i
ing that Davis apparently lost con-1
trol of his machine about a dozen;
yards in front of him,, was thrown j
off and hurled to the side of pie
pavement. ' The motorcycle grazed
the Burns- car and skidded down the
highway. D. M. Phillips of Watts-
vftle, the second cyclist, turned over
in the adjacent field in avoiding Da
vis and his machine caught on fire.
The officers said that the-vrear tire
of the Davis motorcycle was found
to be blown out when they made
their investigation. This led to the
theory, expressed by some, that the
blow-out caused Davis to ' lose con
trol of his machine.
