MRS. LILA W ATTS NELSON
It is with a sense of sorrow and a
deep consciousness of our loss that
we, the members of the Woman's
Missionary society of the First Bap
tist church, pause to pay tribute to
one whom we have long known and
loved, Mrs. Lila Watts Nelson.
Each year there are those leaving
us for their celestial home. It was on
the very threshold of this new- year
that the Reaper claimed Mrs. Nelson
and she joined that caravan that
moves silently to that mysterious
realm called Death.
We know that she so ‘lived thatj
when her summons came she was|
sustained and soothed by an unfalter
ing trust.
During the past few years Mrs.
Nelson wafs not permitted to take an
active part in the work of the society
because of ill health. ,
; . But she wrote* a. poem with her
gracious living;
She lived her quiet life so full, so*
fine;
And^to her daily common tasks she
ever brought
Something of herself to make them
shine
She calmly met each day’s demand
with wisdom.
And though her humble spirit did
not know it,*
Without a written line she was,
withal, * '•*$
A gifted poet,
Mrs. Nelson represented ideally the
mother in Israel and her fine family
of twelve children rise up today to
call her blessed and her own works
do praise her in the jy»tes.
Therefore, be it resolved, that the
society record its deep sense of the
value of her life and its pride at ^be
ing able to claim h^r as one of its
pioneer members.
That a copy .be inscribed in the
minutes of the society and a copy
be sent to the members of her family.
