Presbyterian Women Meet In Columbia The thirtieth annual meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Synod of South Carolina of the Presbyterian church was held in Columbia Tues day through today at the First Pres* byterian church. 1 -v Mrs. A. M. Copeland attended the meeting in the interest of the orphan age,. Dr. William P. Jacobs, presi dent of Presbyterian college, ad dressed the group yesterday on “New Requirements of Christian Educa tion.” Mrs. John Spratt of this city, is Christian social service secretary for the state-wide organization. A.R.P. Bible Class Begins New Study . Mrs. R. L.. Plaxico was hostess on Monday evening to members of the Ladies Bible class,of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church. , Mrs. George Watts Copeland was leader of the program and began a series of discussions on the book, “Studies In the Life of the Christian” by H. T. Sell. Later in the evening a social hour was enjoyed and the hostess served a salad course with tea. Mrs. Sloan Todd of Alexandria, La., who is vis iting here, was a special guest for the meeting and was remembered by the class with a gift. Mr. and Mrs. Chaney Give Dinner For Employes On last Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Chaney celebrated the sixth anniversary of Chaney’s Dress Shoppe with a banquet for the employes at the city hall in Laurens. Punch was served, after which a delicious turkey dinner was enjoyed. The table was prettily decorated with beautiful autumn flowers in a va riety of -colors. Attractive novelty place cards were used. After dinner, Mrs. Chaney, who acted as hostess, office of the Bell Telephone com pany. > Mrs. Maher, who is the daughter and Mrs. Stephen J. Maher of Pater son, N. J., attended the St. Mary’s schools at Paterson. He has been an employe of The Evening News of Patenon for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Maher left during the for a after their home in Spartanburg. of the death of the former’s mother, Mrs. C. T. Martin of Laurens. While here they visited the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Poole. Mrs. G. H Mcllwain of the city schools faculty, was the week-end guest of friends in Belton. Mrs. C. G. Padget of Charlotte, N. C., spent the week-end with her a short wedding trip to mother, Mrs. Jobe Nabors. After dinner the group was entertained in 'a delightfully infor mal manner. As a token of appreciation, the employes presented Mrs. Chaney with a beautiful, silver bread tray and other friends invited for the oc casion remembered her with a lovely set of silver pepper and salt shakers. Group Meets With Mrs. Irene Todd Members of the Woman’s Chris tian Temperance union met on Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Irene Todd. The president, Mrs. L. S. Hender son, presided over the meeting and Mrs. T. L. W. Bailey was in charge of the program. A devotional was led by Mrs. J. Reed Todd, after which Mrs. Bailey discussed articles from the organization’s magazine, “Union Signal” Mrs. Adams Hostess To Friends At Dinifer Pvt. William B. Campbell will re turn today to Vancouver, Washing ton, after spending a leave with Mrs. Campbell and with his mother, Mrs. Murray Adams, at their home on Musgrove street. On Sunday Mrs. Adams was host ess to a number of 1 friends at dinner honoring her son. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gregory and daughter, Mrs. Lee Barnes and sons, and Ray Campbell of Greenwood, Misses' Eleanor and Hilda Dockery and Lick Stroud of Whitmire, Cpl. Mike DeMaro of Fort Jackson, Mrs. J. D. Barbery and Miss Mary Bur roughs of this city, ft Madden-Fuller Rites At Gray Court Church Of interest to friends here is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Madden and Cpl Mil- ton Lee Fuller which was solemnized on October 15 in, the Gray Court Methodist church. Rev. W. Y. Cooley officiated,.'' The wedding music was furnished by Miss Rubye Culbertson and Mrs. E. J. Evatt. Mrs. Troy Madden played the traditional wedding marches, The church was decorated with yellow and white dahlias and false dragon head. For her wedding the bride chose a smart two-piece dress of winter white and rose flannel, with which she wore black accessories. Her cor sage was of talisman rosebuds. Mrs. Fuller is the only daughter of J'. S. Madden and the late Mary. Jacks Madden of Mountville. She at tended Presbyterian college and is the commercial teacher at Hickory Tavern high school. * Corporal Fuller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fuller, of Laurens, at tended Laurens high school. For the past eighteen months he has been a member of the arm^d forces and is now stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. For the present the bride will re main at the home of her father near Mountville while Corporal Fuller re turns to Fort Benning. Former Clinton Girl * Weds In Spartanburg A beautiful ceremony, impressive in its dignity and simplicity, was the wedding of Miss Nell Dillard to James Alexander Maher which took place in the rectory of the St. Paul Catholic church in Spartanburg on Wednesday October 20, at 4 o’clock. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Francis O. Ferri and was attended by the immediate families and a few close friends. Miss Dillard had as her only at tendant, Mrs. Edward Smith as ma tron of honor, and Mr. Maher had as his best man Edward Smith. Mrs. Smith wore a brown dress, brown accessories and a shoulder corsage of talisman roses. The bride was lovely in a street length dress of pale blue. With this costume she wore a pale blue hat and black accessories. Her corsage was of pink rosebuds. Immediately following the wedding an informal reception was held at the home of the bride. The living room where the guests were received was beautifully arranged with a pro fusion of white chrysanthemums and other fall flowers. In the dining room the bride’s table wds lovely with its lace cloth, being centered with a large bowl of small white chrysan themums, flanked on each side with candelabra with lighted white tapers. On one side of the table the bride’s cake, topped with a bride and bride groom was placed. Helping in the serving of punch and cake were the bride’s two sisters, Mrs. Sally At water, Miss Bessie Dillard, and Mrs. Johnny E. Mullins. MHrs. Maher, who is the daughter of Mrs. Jack W. Dillard, is formerly of Clinton but for several years has made her home - in Spartanburg where she has been employed in the afternon f Florida, after which ttiey will make Mrs. B. W. Crouch, Jr., and chil dren of Valdosta, Ga., are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Tay lor. Friends of Mac B. Hipp, Sr., will be glad to know he is improving at Guy H. Milam returned Tuesday to his home in Emporia, Va., after a visit here with his sisters. On Monday Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. Roberts and Mr. Milam were-guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Adair in Greenville. Mrs. James L. Browning of New berry, was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Dicus and family. Mrs. Zee McLees is visiting her son, Lt. Robert McLees, in Orlando, Fla. Workman will be glad to know she is improv-j ing and is able to be up some each day, after a three weeks illness. Mrs. Harry Bolick arrived yester day to visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Todd, for a few days. Her 1 young son, Harry, will return with her to Durham, N. C., Saturday, where they will make their home with Lt. Bolick, stationed at Camp Butner. Friends of Mrs. Hugh Holman will be glad to know she is doing nicely at Hays hospital where she under went an appendix operation vester- day. - Mrs. Augustus Ramsev left this week for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Ferguson, secretary of the Beaumont Manufacturing com pany, Spartanburg, who passed away i Sunday at the Veterans’ hospital, Co- j lumbia. . j Services were held at the Floyd Mortuary in Spartanburg, with Dr. A. Mrs. Ferguson, was a native of Cokesbury, being the daughter of the late David and Martha Tinsley Vance.
