Columbia. Miss Jacks, a graduate of

J. W. MILAM, JR., son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W Milam of this pity, has
enlisted for naval service and is
awaiting assignment. He will enter i
servee as a lieutenant, junior grade.
Mr Milam has been located in Kings
Mountin, N. C., for several years and
at present is assistant manager of a
depatment store there. On Sunday
Mr. Milam and Mrs. Fred Finger,
with whom he makes his home in
Kings Mountain, were gyests of his
parents. t
J. A. CHEATHAM, of Camp Croft,
has been promoted to the rank of
major. Major and Mrs. Cheatham
resided here for several years while
he was principal of Florida Street
school.
CLYDE HEDDEN, of Camp Pick
ett, Va., has been promoted to cap
tain. Captain Hedden, before being
called into service, held a position
with the state board of health, in
Laurens county, and had been sta
tioned at Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg,
Miss., before going to Camp Lee for
special training and Camp Pickett,
where he is now an • instructor in
sanitation. Mrs. Hedden, the former
Miss Jean McKee, daughter of Mrs.
Alma McKee of this city, is in Hat
tiesburg, where she holds, a position
with the U.S.O. ’
DR. F. D. JONES, medical corps,
stationed with the supply deport
ment, Atlanta, Ga., has been promot
ed to major. Major Jones Is the son
of Dr. and Mrs. F Dudley Jones of
this city.
LT. PAUL TODD, eon of Mrs.
Irene Todd of this city, has been
transferred from' Edgewood Arsenal,
Md., frith the 69th Chemical com
pany to Camp Ha an, California. In a'
letter to “The Chronicle,” Lt Todd
states, “Being convinced of the
worthiness of our cause, Tm happy
in my new work.”

mission as 2nd lieutenant in the
army June 23rd. He graduated from
