While the local Selective service board has received no information as yet as to the registration of youths between the ages of 18 and 19, Wash ington announces that approximately three million youths of these ages will visit registration boards June 30 to complete the survey of manpower for fighting or making weapons for combat. The state selective service office states that this fifth listing is ex pected to produce an estimated 25,000 youths in South Carolina, who will be liable to military call when they reach the age of 20. Gen. Holmes B. Springs, state selective service direc tor, says that the method of registra tion will be determined soon. Four previous registrations took care of men 20 through 64 years of! age—nearly 40,000,000 of them. Those 18 and 19 years old cannot be drafted for military service under! existing law, but some of them might; be. mobilized along with older men I for service in war plants. I The bureau of research and statis tics of the federal security agency es- j timated that as of April 1 there were 2,483,000 men in that age bracket, while probably 500,000 who have 1 turned 20 also will register June 30. The army and navy also have been When a Child Needs a Laxative I ' -«► SYRUP OF-BLACK-DRAUGHT , is a tasty liquid that most children will welcome whenever they need a laxative. What’s more important, it has the same main ingredient' as BLACK-DRAUGHT, iti older com panion. Perhaps that’s why it usu ally gives a child such refreshing relief from the familiar symptoms irhich show a laxative is needed. Comes in two sizes: 25c—50c. urging*' voluntary enlistments of youths of 18; and 19, and those who hdve joined the armed forces will not have to register. The presidential proclamation fix ing June 30 as registration day also made provision for registration be fore or after that date in exceptional cases. From the pool of nearly 43,000,000 men who will have signed up with local selective service boards by July 1, approximately 22^00,000 win be withdrawn for military duty or for work in war factories.
