Mrs. Martin Complimented
The Ladies class of the First Bap
tist church honored Mrs. W. T. Mar
tin with a delightful party in the
church parlors on Monday night.
The guest of honor was presented
with a handsome crystal sandwich
tray.
This happy get-together was tinged
with sadness because Mrs. Martin is
leaving tu make her home in Green
ville. Sill has brought inspiration to
her class which benefitted by her
teaching and which regards her with
deep affection.

she is survived by one son, A. J. Goa-
nell of Goldville and the following
step-children: Oliver Huble, Mrs. El
sie Gruber. Mrs. Annie Rushton, Otis

David Huble. Also surviving are
three sisters: Mrs. Mary Fowler of
Marietta; Mrs. J. D. Crain of Clinton;
Mrs. Rosa Pruitt of Travelers Rest;
two brothers, Manuel Parnell of Ma
rietta; Harrison Parnell of West
Spring, and two grand-children.

Mrs, Alice Gosnell Huble, 47, wife
of F. W, Huble, died Saturday morn
ing at her home near Clinton.
Funeral services were held Sunday
afternoon at 4 o’clock from the Bap
tist church in Goldville, with Rev.
J. E. Mitchell officiating. Burial was

GARRETT LOSES LIFE
IN WAR IN PACIFIC
Laurnes, Dec. 16.—Mrs. Mildred
Garrett of Watts Mills was officially
notified today of the loss of her son,
Wyatt Claude Garrett, 19, while “in
action in defense of this country.”
Mrs. Garrett said her son was a sea
man second class, had been in the
navf since September, 1940.
A letter dated December 5 was
received today by the mother ab^ut
five minutes before the “loss” mes
sage came.
In addition to his mother, widow,
the young seaman is survived by
two brothers, Wayne and Cecil Gar
rett, and one sister, Mrs. Helen Leop
ard.
