Of interest to their friends is the
marriage of Miss Margaret Hill and
George W. Cato, whidi took place
Sunday, Novemter 23, in Augusta,
Ga
The bride is the daughter of E. A.
Hill of this city, and the late Mrs.
Hill/ She holds a position in file of
fices of Dr. William P. Jacobs.
Mr. Cato, a native of Columbia,
has been connected with the Home
Stores here and in Colxnnbia for sev
eral years and has recently been
transferred here as manager of the
local store.

this city, who now makes her home

Horton-Oxley Wedding
Party Entertained
After Rehearsal
The Horton-Qxley wedding party
was entertained on Friday evening
following the rehearsal by the bride’s
sister Mrs. H. Grady Chandler, and
Mr. Chandler. ^
The Chandler home was artistically
decorated with white and yeltow
duysanthemums and white lighted
tapers glowed on the handsmnely ap
pointed dining table and mantels
Jack Matthews, pianist, rendered a
number of mxisical selections during
the evening. A variety of dainty
sandwiches and Russian tea were
served to thirty guests.
Luncheon, Linen Shower
For Mrs. Giles, Bride

B. Kugler of Washington, N. C., were
joint hostesses, entertaining for Blrs.
Thurston R. Giles, a recent bride,
with a luncheon and linen shower on
Thursday at Hotel Clinton Coffee
shop.
The dining room was beautifully
decorated with large white chrysan
themums. The table, where covers
were laid for ten guests, was effec
tive with an arrangement of carna
tions and white caiuiles. An old-
fashiond bouquet marked the bride’s
place. After a three-course luncheon,
Mrs. Giles was presented gifts of
linen from the guests.

Reformed Presbjrterian church gath
ered last evening at the Clinton Tea
Room for a turkey dinner.

decorations in Christmas colors
adorned the dining romn. Rev. C. B.
Betts, pastor of the church, presided,
with about 75 enjoying the occasion.
The quartet of the Presbyterian col
lege glee club entertained with a
number of . musical selections.

Mrs. L. R. Lynn entertained the
Ella Riddell circle of the Thomwell
Memorial church on Monday after
noon.
The circle’s chairman, Mrs. Jennie
Newkirk, presided over the business
session.
Bfrs. F. M. Stutts gave the devo
tional, using the subject, “Look Unto
Him.” A beautiful program, “We Are
Come to Worship Him,” was giv«a
by Bfrs. J. A. Flanagan.

sian tea, canapes and ^kies.

N. C., a former member of the cir
cle, was welc(xned at the meeting.
Y.W.A. Studies
Foreign Missions
At a special meeting on Tuesday
evening at the home of Miss Frances
Jones, twelve members of the Young
Women’s association of the First
Baptist church joined in the observ
ance of the “week of prayer” for
foreign missions.
Miss Clara Poole had charge of a
program dealing with mission work
in Brazil, Chile, China and Hawaii.
Those taking parts were Misses
Jones, Jamie Little, Hazel Howard
and Mrs. C. C. Brannon. A special
offering for -the cause was taken and
during a business session plans made
for the Christmas candlelight service.
Later in the evening the hostess
served Russian tea, sandwiches and
fruitcake.
Methodist Societies To
Hold December Meetings
Circles of the Woman’s Society of
Christian Service of Broad Street
Methodist church will meet Monday
afternoon, December 8, at 3:30. Dur
ing a business session all members
will be asked to complete their
pledges so the books may be closed.
A social hour will follow and gifts
from the members to their circle
sisters will be presented fitnn the
Christmas tree.
The Sara Glenn circle will meet at
7:30 at the church at which time a
Christmas pageant will be given, a
social hour and Christmas tree en
joyed.
The aiuciliary will meet Tuesday
afternoon, Dec^ber 9, at 3:30. The
names of new officers of the organi-
zati(m will be read and chairmoi for
the coining year appointed.
“This Christmas.” Music was xinder
the direction of Dr. Barden, and a
number of selections were given by
the Brotherhood qiuurtet composed of
W. G. Coker, Dr. Barden, John B.
Gentry and Fred Bouknight. Julian
Coleman directed 'a nmnber of en
tertaining :ggmes.
Presiding over the affair, whidi
was attended by <me hundred mem
bers, their wives and friends, was
the president, Bfr. Adair. Other offi
cers are: D. B. &nith, vice-president,
and C. M. Bedenbaugh, secretary-

Auxiliary Group' Meets
With Mrs. Felder Smith
The Piedmont Group Auxiliary to
the South Carolina Optometric asso
ciation meeting was held at the hatne
of Mrs. Felder Smith in Laurens on
Wednesday morning, this being the
regular December meeting, held one
week earlier on account of making
plans for the Christmas banquet.
Mrs. Smith, the president, presid
ed over the meeting, with Mrs. W. C.
Ezel acting as secretary pro tern ini
the absence of the Secretary. The!
minutes of the previous meeting were |
read and approved. The roll call was
answered by current events pertain
ing to vision.
Mrs. Smith, chairman of arrange
ments for the Christmas banquet,
reported and it was decided to have
the annual affair at the Watts Mill
community house, Laurens, on Tues
day, December 16, at 7:30. Mrs. W.
