Feted With Shower
On Tuesday preceding her mar
riage November 20 to Walter Evans,
Jr., of Charlotte, N. C., Miss Martha
Liou Blakely was complimented with
a lovely party by Mrs. L. M. Wilson.
The home was decorated through-
oltit with chrysanUiemums in pastel
shades. The place of the honor guest
was nuurked with a beautiful corsage
of pompon chrysanthemums. Guests
were entertained with games and
contests following the bri^ theme,
after which the gifts were presented

and fruit cake with Russian tea was
served.

Rifes Announced
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Barnett an
nounce the marriage of their dau^-
ter, Frances Odell, to James Marion
McCarter of Yoric and Soutti Amer
ica. The marriage took place Sep
tember 14, at Winnsboro.
Mrs. M(^arter is the only daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Barnett. She re
ceived her B. S. degree frexn Lime-
stona college and for tiie past few
years has taught in the Pacolet and
Irmo high sdiools.
Mr. McCarter is the son of T. G.
McCarter and'the late Mrs. McCarter
of York. He is a graduate of the Uni
verslty of South Carolina and is con
nected with the Pan-American Air
ways in Souhi America.
Mr. and Mrs. McCarter will make
their home for the coming year in
Venezuela, South America.

At a meeting of the county Lime
stone club held last Tuesday after
noon at the home of Mrs. T. L. W.

The AuxWary to the Laurens
County Medical society met with
Mrs. D. O. Rhame, Jr., cm Monday
aftemon.
Mrs. R. M. Pollitzer of GreenviUe,
president of the state auxiliary was
the guest speaker. Mrs. Pollitzer
brought to the organization a very
timely paper on “The Medical Aux
iliary in Relation to National De-
fmse," with q^ecial emphasis on nu
trition.
Accompanying Mrs. Pollitzer were
Mrs. L. H. McCalla, state correspond
ing secretary; Mrs. L. O. Maul^
state diairman for the student loan;
and Mrs. Irvin S. Barksdale. Mrs.
McCalla gave interesting facts con
cerning the cancer c<mtrol program
being sponsored by the Greenville
County Auxiliary and Mrs. Mauldin
made a report on the student loan
fund as it stands today.
At the close of the business ses
sion Mrs. W. T. Martin of Goldville,
current president,' announced her
resignation from the office and from
the Laurens County Auxiliary as she
and Dr. Martin are soon to move to
Greenville. Mrs. B. O. Whitten, of
this dty, vice-president of the Aux
iliary, will succeed Mrs. Martin for
ffie remaining meetings of the fiscal
year,
The Auxiliary voted to buy two
tuberculosis bonds during the drive
this month. One bond will be bought
with credit going to the dty of Clin-
too and the other for, cre^t to the
city of Laurens. t
The next meeting of the chapter
will be held the fourth Monday in
January in Laurens.

United In Marriage
Of wide social interest throughout
the Carolinas and Texas is the mar
riage of Thurston Giles and Miss
Helen- Dove, solemnized at 4 o'clock
on Sunday afternoon at the home of
Mr. Giles’ parents on Adair street.
Rev. W. R. Bouknight of Greer, for
mer pastor of Broad Street Metho
dist church, officiated, using the im
pressive ring ceremony.
Music for the nuptials was ren
dered by Idrs. Williiun Brooks Ow
ens, pianist. “Indian Love Call" was
played vdiile the candles were being
lighted by little Miss Barrie Jean
Wingard, daughter of Lt and Mrs.
Barringer F. Wingard. As the bridal
party descended the stairs Lohen
grin's wedding march was played.
“Traumerei” was rendered softly
during the ceremony, following
which Mrs. Owens play^ Mmdels-
sohn’s chorus as a recessional.

Preceding the bridal couple to the
altar were Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Kug-
ler of Washington, N. C., sister and
brother-in-law of the groom.
The bride’s only attendant was her
sister, Mrs. Kyle Alexander of Wa
co, Texas. She wore a becoming suit
of beige with a corsage of Talisman
roses. They were met at the altar by
the bridegroom and the best man.

Mrs. Giles, an attractive brunette,
is the dau(^ter of David Dunbar
Dove and the late Mrs. Dove of

dence School of Nursing, Waco. At
the time of her marriage she eras
serving at the Fitzsimmons General
hospital, Denver, Colorado, in the
capMity of a second lieutenant in
the army nursing corps.

lege and General Motors Tedmical
school Flint, Michigan. He is a ser
geant in the Laurens medical de
tachment of the 178th Field Artil
lery, Fort Bragg, N. C. Prior to en-

Mr. Evans, the son of Mr. ai^d Mrs.
W. L.-Eyans, graduated from Sum
ter high school and attended Castle
Heights Military academy, Lebanon,
Tenn., and Presbyterian college. He

After December first the young
couple will make their home in

blue with black accessories. Her
only ornament was a brooch which
belonged to her great-grandmother.
Her flowers were a corsage of sweet
heart roses and lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Evans is the elder daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hilery Ma
son Blakely. She was graduated from
C. C. Giles, father of the groom. For I Clinton high school and attended
Leon Crump, Mrs. K. F. Mills; Miss

Martha Whitten presided over the

Jean Wingard and Anne Owens

home. The prettily appointed table
was covered with a handsome lace
cloth and the centerpiece was a low
silver bowl of white carnations and
fern.
About 250 guests called during the
appointed hours.
