NEWS FROM BATTERY
B" AT CAMP STEWART
Bj JOHN B. CBANfOBO. JB.^ .
##
After two’ months of intensive
tndning we have come to realise that
we are in'the United States army,
and ar^ fast becoming a reeogniz^
battery of the 107th Separate Bat
Anti-Aircraft)
talion Coast Artillery(
of Camp Stewart, Ga.
Summer here in Camp Stewart has
suddenly burst umn us like a bomb
shell. Every one is wondering whetii-
er or not (wfam tl>ey go home for
the week-end) their folks Will mis
take them for ‘‘darkies,*’ because
they are so mudi in the tan.
Wednesday we were taken
for a twenty-mite stroll through the
surrounding swamps. Most of the
boys enjoyed the; trip: .they said it
was educational 'to travti by foot,
through the Geor^ swamps dodging
mosquitoes and kwing the way. The
wonderful part of it was that we DID
find our way bade. If you, dear read-
could see the surrotmding coun
try you would understand.
First Sergeant Owens is doing fine
after receiving a gash in his teg that
tnree stitches. To quote Ser-
requirad
geant, “I’ll never try to fight a 87-
millimeter gun again.”
Our deepest sympathy to our
“buddy,” Private Sydney L. Riser,
whose brother was kilted Sunday
night in Columbia.
At the time of this writing every
one in camp is preparing for a hike
which will take us away from here
Tuesday morning and return uf late
Wednesday night. The events of the
hike will be kept and passed cm. to
you in my next writing.
We have almost every spo#t here
except baseball. However, we will be
reddy for our first scdieduted game
in several weeks. We are all urged
to take part in some fcarm of ath
letics, due to the fact we need the
exercise(?7).
Today our stoves were taken out
of our tents, giving us much more
room and proving that summer is
really here. ,
In closing, may I leave with you
this very comforting thought. Sun
day, April 20th,' was Adolf Hitter’s
fifty-second birttkday and it is inter
esting to know that he has one year
1^ to terrorize the world, and if the
b<^ of Battery ‘3’’ ever have to do
battle with him and his legions and
they fight.as hard as they have
tratecd, then his time would be ma
terially reduced.
