Rerykii SwNnClarage PMm196 Spring;. Sprihf sports are swing ing ri^t along, and we are off in hot punw to gpther a few loose ends and make some over-due comments.' That happy look on Chick Gallo-; way’s face faded temporarily Mon-j day when his hi^-riding Blue Stock ing baseballers ran smack into a potent barrage of hits at the hands of Newberry’s Indians. , Cagey Bill Laval’s baseball teams I can always be expected to give trou ble, and they usually save a double dose for Presbjrterian teSuns. But we| feel that a trite sports saying holds; gaad kMM: Iba difteraBce in soora, failed to indicate the closeness in ability. Previously, the PC nine had: licked Carolina, and Carolina has I licked Newberry. ’That’s tke way it fora. All signs point tq a banner year in baseball for the Blue Hose. Any team that can beat Duke university is go ing places. The record of the team thus far shows that they are defi-1 nitely a championriiip threat. The; books show five wins and two losses j in college competition, and only one • of the losses was in the state. I The Duke victory at the opening; of the season is the biggest feather in Coach Galloway’s hat, in our opin ion. Obviously, the Blue Hose are not over-awed by reputation or name, and they don’t rattle easily, either. , j HO-HUM! PC won another tennis! match. At least that’s the general* attitude, now that Coach Lufler’s net-1 men have the victory habit again. During spring holidays this week,: the Blue Hose netmen are on a trip, seeking, stiffer competition. They are' expectat^i to find it, too,, at Emory, University of the l^uth. University: of Tennessee, Vanderbilt, University; of Alabama. The big names in tennis are ex-' pected *to play exhibition matehes here May 8. When Donald Budge, Alice Marble, Bill Tilden, and Mary Hardwick 4ippear in one afternoon on the same courts, that’s news. And hundr^ of people will be here to see how ^ game really should be played. Clinton high school is in the rvui- ning for the state tennis champion ship again. Johnny Mimnaugh and Rufvu Sadler arc the mainstays of a fairly well-balanced team. These two I boys are already toumamttit veter ans. They have the additional ad vantage of being able to learn by watching PC playna, and of receiv- 'og occasional point^ from Coach Lufler, one of the best tennis coaches in the South. At present, the old problem of ade quate (daying facilities is popping up ag^. Occaaional practice on the col lege couria at the convenience of the coUega team is not enough.
