Friends of Donnie Wilder, son of Mr. and Mrs._R, P,...Wilder, will be sorry to know he is ill at his home with measles. Mrs. Zee McLees and Miss Sallie Wright visited their son and nephew, Robert McLees, who is a patient in a Columbia hospital, on Tuesday. Friends of Mr. McLees will be inter ested to know his condition shows improvement. Friends and acquaintances here of John H. Dillard of Augusta, Ga., will regret to know he is quite ill at his home. Mr. Dillard is a brother of Mrs. N. Reese Young and L. B. Dill ard of this city. On Tuesday Mrs. Young, Mr. Dillard and Mrs. S. C. Hays visited Mr. Dillard. Davidson, who has been spending some time.in Greenwood and Pendleton, has returned to the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H< Donnan. Mr, and Mrs. Walter Aull of Pendleton, spent the week-end here with the latter’s sister, Mrs. Donnan. Mrs. Victor Grill of Norfolk, Va., spent a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. R. C. Stewart. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Grill have just re turned from a visit to their daughter and sister, Mrs. O. B. King, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mrs. M. A. Bennett and daughter, Emily Ann, have returned to their home in Myrtle Beach after visiting her sisters, Mrs. J^ Austin Chandler and Mrs. Karl Johnson for several weeks. Mr. Bennett was also here Tuesday and accompanied them home. Thornwell Family To Get Holiday Institution To Honor ^ Birthday of Founder, Dr. William P. Jacobs. Next Monday will be observed at Thornwell orphanage as a full holi day in honor of the birthday of the institution’s founder. Dr. William P. Jacobs, who was bom 99 years ago on March 15, 1842. The orphanage first opened for the admission of eight children on Oct. 1, 1875. Since then, for sixty-six years, March 15, or as close thereto as con venient has been celebrated as a hol iday by the children of the home in honor of its founder. At 10 o’clock in the chapel a spe cial program will be given, with Rev. C. E. Piephoff in charge of the mu sical part of the exercises. The ad dress for the occasion will be deliv ered by Hugh Jacobs of this city, a great-grandson of the late Dr. Ja cobs, who served as president of the orphanage for 42 years until his death on Sept. 10, 1917. Dr. L. R. Lynn, president of the institution, states that the public is qordially invited to attend the me morial exercises. 1 Winners Picked In "Baby Show // Little Jackie Franks and Bill Rob erts were winners of the prizes of fered in the baby show feature spon sored by the American Legion Aux iliary last Thursday evening at Flor ida Street school. Both the little girl and boy were presented sterling sil ver plates. Jackie is the four-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Franks, and Bill, who is five, is the' son of Rev. and Mrs. J. K. Roberts. Thirty-six children between the ages of one and six entered the con test. The program was under the di rection of Mrs. B. O. Whitten, presi dent of the organization, who was assisted in the kiddie parade by Mrs. Ra3Tnond Pitts, Mrs. Alec Henry and Mrs. W. Roy Pitts. Legion Auxiliary Expresses Thanks The American Legion Auxiliary wishes to publicly express their thanks and appreciation to the en tire cast of the local talent play, “Mystery At Midnight,’’ which it sponsored last week. Having made many contacts during^thf two weeks of rehearsal, the president of the auxiliary, Mrs. B. O. Whitten, states that the business men and women who took character parts in the play were most cooperative and are due the thanks of the auxiliary and the entire public for so willingly giving their time and talent in behalf of the auxiliary’s effort.
