as manager of Hamilton’s, Inc., jew
elers, on North Broad street.
Mr. Thomas, whose transfer from
Columbia is a promotion, has been
with Hamilton’s for several years
and for the past two years has been
manager of the repair department
in the Columbia store.
Mr. Thomas is a native of Char
lotte, N. C., and has been in the
jewelry business since completing
school.
He and Mrs. Thomas, with their

Jr., announced today 439,022 South
Carolina Democrats had enrolled for
the party primary next Tuesday.
! This compared with 423,036 two
[years ago, and 375,796 in 1934.
_The precincts this year totaled
1,523, compared with 1,508 in 1938, |
and 1,474 in 1934. |
The primary brought out 336,0871
voters two years ago, but Hunter!
said that number would hardly vote
this year as few state offices were
to be filled. Interest in the wet-dry
referendum however, may bolstei
the total.

I C. A. Garrett, 46, died at a Co-
' lumbia hospital Thursday after an
illness of four weeks.
' A native of Laurens,' where he
spent his entire life, Mr. Garrett is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie

'Prince of Spartanburg, Mrs. Grange
Campbell of this city, Mrs. Robert

Funeral services were held at Lu-
^cas Avenue Baptist church, Laurens,
with the Rev. Jodie A. Martin in
. charge. Burial was in the church
cemetery.

morning at the home here of his son.
John May, after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at Un
ion at 11 a.m. Friday, conducted by
the Rev. C. W. Nalley. Interment
followed in Rosemont cemetery.
Survivors include toe following

Union. Ernest May of Newberry, J.
B. May of Winter Park, Fla.; two
