The Women’s Christian Temj^- ance union met on Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. T. L. W. Bailey. Mrsv J. C. Roper was chairman of tdie afternoon’s program. She spoke oT the evil effect of liquor advertise ments in magazines and newspapers and showed a number of such adver tisements cligped from leading peri odicals. After the . program the hostess served delicious sandwiches and tea. A delicious dinner Fas served and af terwards many amusi^ contests and games were enjoyed. MRS. BROWN HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Marshall Brown was hostess to the Wednescjby Study club last week. A profusion of daffpdils and spirea adorned the living room. An interesting program was given by Mrs. Thomwell Dimlap. She told of the colorful and adventurous life in California during the days of the “Forty-Niners.” The hostess served delicious coffee, sandwiches, fruitcake and salted nuts. MRS. GRAHAM HOSTESS TO CENTURY CLUB The Centtiry club met Tuesday af ternoon with Mrs. Boswell Gibham. Featuring the program was the reading of two stories, one by Mrs. R, E. Wysor, “All or Nothing,” by Charleston ^ Caldwell Dobie, and the other by Mrs. L. R. L^n, “What Col lege Did To Me,” by Robert Benchley. Mre. R, E. Wysor, Sr., of Dublin, Va., was guest of the club on this occasion. The next meetin|r Fill be held March 2nd with Mrs. Marshall Brown. AUXILIARY MEETS WITH MRS. W. R. PITTS The American Legion auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting on Tues day evening at the home pf Mrs. W. R, Pitts, with Mrs. Gus Hollings worth and Mrs. P. B. Adair as joint hostesses., The meeting was given over to per fecting plans for the night of enter tainment to be presented by the aux iliary on Friday night at Florida Street school. After the business meeting the DARRELL DAILEY GIVES VALENTINE PARTY Saturd^ evening Darrell Dailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J, B. Dailey, en tertained friends at an enjoyable Valentine party. QUlNTUfe^ CLUB LBNTl HAS VALBNTINB PARTY The Quintuplet club meet Saturday afternoon with Ann Owens. This club is composed of little girls from the first grade whose names are thoSe of the famous Dionne quintuplets. They are: Ann Cecile Owen*, Louise Yvonm Tribble, Barrijean Annette Wingard, Alberta Ehnily Baldwin, and Mary Frances Pinson. Peggy Copeland was the guest of the dub. After interesting games had been played^' the children were served de lightful refreshments by Mrs. Robert S. Owens. The Valentine motif was effecti^ly carried out in the deco rations and rafreshments. hostesses' served sandwiches, cookies, and Russian tea. SARAH GLENN CIRCLE HOLDS MEETING The Sarah Glenn circle of Broad Street Methodist church met Monday^ evening with Miss Collette Griffin. .Mrs. J. C. Roper gave an interest ing character study of Eve. She plans to- continue these studies at each meeting, alternating with characters from the Old and New Testaments. After a short business session, the hostess, assisted by Miss Madeline Adair, served a delicious salad course, Russian tea, and toasted marshmal lows. MRS. BRIMM’S MUSIC CLASS GIVES VALENTINE PARTY ThetB Natural Music club, composed of the pupils of Mrs. D. J. Brimm’s piano studio, enjoyed an atractive Valentine party at the home of Kath erine Dicus and Violet Browning on Saturday evening. A number of amusing games were played. For re freshments delicious chocolate with n^arshmallows, and pink iced cake and fruit cake were served. Pretty Valentines and candy were givien as favors. METHODIST AUXILIARY HOLDS MEETING The February meeting oi the Wo man’s Auxiliary of Bioad Street Methodist church was held on Monday afternoon. The meeting w’as given over to the installation of new offi cers fdr the year. I>r. J. C. Roper formally installed' the officers, and gave an inspirational talk on the work of the auxiliary. It was announced that the council of missionary societies of the South ern Methodiist Church would meet in Columbia March 9-15. According to custom a short prayer .service was held previous to the aux iliary meeting and was le<l by Mi-s. T. R. Owens. of mixed garden flowers w^ra" used for decorations in the living room.ff Bingp was played. Attractively wrapped prizes were giveh the win ners and these which were presented to the bride-elect proved to.. be a useful assortment of kitchen uten- sils. The gU(^ts w?re invited into the dining r*oom. Centering the table was a bowl of) Japanese quince and red hearts and candles carried out the -Valentine motif. A delicious sal ad course yms served. The hostess was assisted in entertaining by Mrs. Julia Griff in, TBfins. J. A. Chandler and Mrs. W.'D. Byrd. Mias Anderson and Miss Almena Milling, bride-elect, were each griven ai^ attractive filfe for recipes and each guest wrote her favorite recipe. Guest were ^ besidea the honor guqst, Mrs. T. J. Anderson, Mrs. Lawless, Mrs. Holloway, Misses Sa die Chandler, Lydie Leake, Emma Little, Frances Roper, Margaret Sad ler, Laura Cates, Alice Gaines, Mary Collette Davis, .\lmena Milling and Lois Blakely. ^ With the vogud for patent leather, for those who'’would fike^ne shdde which w’ill harmonize with prints and solid dark dresses as well, we suggest bronze patent. PARTY GIVEN FOR CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR GROUP Miss Leta McIntyre entertained the executive committee of the Chriatian Endeavor of the Thomwell Mmwrial church and their guests on Saturday evening at dinner in the McCall build ing. YOUNG GROUP ENJOY PARTY AT CLUB The Skull and Cross Bones club gave an'attractive masquerade party on Friday evening at the Lakeside country club. The variety and effec tiveness of the costumes added to flowers gave the table-a feative air. the festiveness of the occasion. I Proms and dancing were enjoyed. MEMORIAL SERVICE BY PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY The W’oman’s Auxiliary of the Kii'st Preffbyteriln church met on Monday afternoon at the church. The meet ing was a memorial service for two of it* highly regarded members who have recently died, Mrs. Hal Baldwin and Miss Agatha Davis. Mrs. Harry Wilkes’ circle had charge of the meeting, with Mr«. Ar thur ('opeland leading the devotional. Mrs. S. G. I>Hlard read a fitting me morial to Mrs. Baldwin and Mrs. J. A. Following the theme for the year, All- People,” the February program was a discussion of “The Jew.” After an introduction to this study and the scripture lesson given by Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. W. N. Long told an interesting story entitled “From Rus sia To Palestine.” -Mrs. Dan Yarborough answered the queati<^!’-“Who Sells Your Fruit?” and Mrs. William Montjoy “Who Measures Your Lace?” Mrs. A. B.
