for mud, clay and dirt seems to be due
to an actual lack of some mineral con

its unpleasant inhabitants. >

that there, is a way of teaching a
child music that does not involve te
dious practicing and compulsion on the
T)art of parent and teacher. I should
like this sort of thing for my own
seven-year-old son; but the music
teachers here tell me that this is per
fect nonsense. 'What would you do, if
you were in my place?
Answer: If what you require is abil
ity to perform on the piano, it may be*
that they are right, and that drudgery
and compulsion are the only way to
guarantee this. If on the other hand
what you are more iritefested in is a
love of music, and aq/Ability to enjoy
it from the start and throughout life,
with or without ‘^ility to play as his
own experience^may decide, then I be
lieve I "am right,, and that they are

supply bill to mean tliat the $1,080

was for 12 months at I $90 a month.
The delegation made no stipulation
as 4b the assistant returning the $270
to the clerk but mentioned it as a
measure of arriving at the latier’s
gross salary of $2,250 for the nine
months.
Other salary and appropriation it

To Deputy Sheriff Riddle $300 for
travel allowance, no allowance hav-
encouragement.
The American cotton manufacturers
association^ representative of the sou

Charlotte yesterday and not only did
they vote to majee no change in the
conduct of their business, but, Fisher
added,l “as evjidence of sincerity,’’ they
directed the appointment of a commit
tee “for observing and securing con
ference by the members of the indus
try with this resolution.”
Wit^ the northern mills already fav
oring continuance of the codes the ac
tion in the south “makes it unanimous
