En route the party stopped at points of historic interest. Throughout the evening an atmosphere Of delightful informality prevailed. An artistic arrangement of tulips centered the prettily appointed dint ing table and tall candles burned In holders. Delicious block ice cream and pound cake were served. In the other rooms of the spacious home purple iris, bridal wreath spi rea and bowls of violets added charm. MRS. YOUNG COMPLIMENTS MISS COPELAND Mrs. Jack H. Young entertained on Monday afternoon for Miss Sarah Copeland, who has been the recipient of much social attention since the an nouncement' of her engagement. A variety of lovely spring flowers including yellow jessamine spirea and pansies were arranged in the rooms. The guests were given cup towels to hem which were presented to-the honor gruest upon completion. Mrs. Young also gave her a lovely trous seau gift. es. SHOWER GIVEN MISS COPELAND Mias Sarah Copeland, whose mar riage to Harry Nettles will take place tomorrow, was feted on Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. J. F. .Jacobs, Jr. invited friends for a kitcheh-dih- ing room shower. Graceful sprays of Lady Bankehia roses, iris and pansies were effective ly us<^ in the receiving rc^s. In the schoice of refreshments a color note of yellow and green was chosen. Delectable salad and sweet courses were served. An attractive collection of gifts was presented the bride-elect, in a unique manner. On the guest list, besides the honor guest were: Mrs. Arthur Copeland, Mrs* Frank Wallace, Mrs. Jbto W. PRESBYTERUL MEETS AT WHITMIRE FRIDAY The South Carolina Presbyterial will convene tomorrow with the Pres byterian church at Whitmire for its annual spring session. A number of ladies from the FTrst Presbyterian and Thornwell Memorial churches of this city ,will attend/the conference. One hundred and fifty delegates are ex pect^ from churches in Newberry, Laurens, Greenwood and Abbeville counties, comprising South' Carolina presbytery. The opening exercises will begin Friday moniing at 9:15 with the Rev. John MacEach^, pastor of the host church, conducting the devotional. Re ports from cause secretaries will be beard daring the morning and talks made by Miss Janie McCutcheon, Mrs. 8. L. Timmons, and* the Rev. Plnmer Stalth, misaumary to Africa. After welcomed the g^uests, after which she responded to toasts: “To Football Team,’’ Marion Cha- ney. Response, Lykes Henderson. - - “To Basketball Team,” Billy Pitts. Response, Walter Todd. “Ik) Girls’ Basketball Team,” Sara Frances Baldwin. Miss Polly Elrod presented letters to the members of the girls’ basketball team. Letters to the boys were pre sented by Coach A. H. McQueen. S. W. Sumerel, a member of the board of trustees, made a talk, and Coach L. S.. McMillian of Pretbylerian college was heard on the “Benefits of Athletics.” Bupt. J. H. Witherspoon was also on the program for a talk in which he brought greetings to the young people and pointed out several important lessons of life to be learned from participating in school athletics. Miss Mildr^ Whitten gave several popular song numbers. The happy occasion came to a close with the singing of the high school “Alma. M%tor.” Clever Hit Show At Goldville “The Dancing Cow Girls” will be a big attraction Friday afternoon at 4:30, and at' 7:30 Saturday night in the school auditorium at Goldville. The entertainment is being sponsored by the Joanna ball club and will .consist of black-face acts, acrobatic dancing and good music.
