Three cars containing eleven of
Thornwell’s alumni and friends went
to Columbia last Ffiday, March 16,
the anniversary ~of the Wrth of Dr.
Wm. P. J^acobs. Meeting in the dining
room of the First Presbyterian church
were 66 alumni and friends. A sump
tuous supper Whs enjoyed, which was
prepared by the wives of several
Thomwell alumni. Speeches were en
joyed from W. D. Roberts, superin
tendent -of Epworth orphanage, Co
lumbia; Dr. J. W. Jackson, pastor of
the First Presbyterian church; Rev.
S. K. Phillips, pastor of Arsenal Hill
Presbyterian church; Dr. Lynn, presi
dent of Thomwell, and others, after
which the Thomwell alumni living in
Columbia went intn the business of
organizing a chapter, the eighth
formed recently.
Those from Clinton making the trip
were: Dr. Lynn, Mrs. Lota Dugan, Mr.
and Mrs. Dennis Sowers, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Layton, Mr. and Mrs. F. M.
Stutts, Robert Murphy, Carlton Winn,
and Furman Jordan. Mrs. Dugan, dean
of ibe matron’s staff, was the guest
of honor, and it was her presence that
brought many to the meeting. She re
sponded by rising and bowing to the
assemblage amidst applause.
