Hopewell Section
Negro Found Dead
Laurens, March 10.—Apparently the
victim of foul play, the body of Bus
ter Cunnins^ham, 46, Negro tenant on
the Bedenbaugh farm in the Hopewell
section of'Hunter township, was dis
cover^ Saturday in Bush river in the
southeastern part of the county, not
far from the Newberry line. The dis
covery was made by a party of chil
dren at play or fishing in the'jstream.
At.the inquest, held.late in the day
by Coroner John A Thoma.son, it.was
brought out that Cunningham had
been missing from home since Febru
ary 18. The post mortem examination,
made by Dr. C. B. Mills of Cross Hill,
assistant county physician, revealed
several head injuries, evidently caused’
by blows with a heavy instrument.
Lizzie Cunningham, the widow, seem
ed unable to shed much light on the
circumstances of her Husband’s ab-
sence. On the recommendation of the

At Goldville
On last Saturday night the local
American Legion-post hold ^ne of its
best attended' meetings, in Goldville.
There were 70 present, including sev
eral out-of-town guests and Goldville
legionnaires. The wives of the latter
prepared a chicken stew. Frank
Smith’s string band quartet furnished
music for the occasion. This was a
joints affair, betwet-n the local post
and the ex-service men of Goldville;
Speeches were enjoyed from State
