WHEN A FATHER PRAYS
Build me a son. Oh Lford, who will be strong enough to know w'hen _
he is weak and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid. One
whcT will be proud and .iinbepding in defeat, hut humble an^ gentle
in victory. /
A son who.se wishbone will not be where his backbone should be;
a .son who will know, that to know himself, is the foundation stone of
all true knowledge. , r
Rear him^ I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under
the stress and spur bf difficultie-s and challenges. Here let him learn
to sUnd up in the storm; here let him learn compa.ssion for those who
fall. .
Bujld me a son whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high.
A son who will master himself, before he seeks to master other men.
One who will learn to laugh, but never forget how to weep. One who
will reach far into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor
so that he may always be serious yet never take himself serious
ly; a touch of humility, so that he may always remember the sim
plicity of true greatness; the open mind of true wisdom; the meekness
of true atrengith. ^
Then, I, His father,~w’ill dare in the sacred recesses of my own
heart to whisper: “I have not lived in vain.!’

won all their previous contests decis

Bissett won by continually poring his

not land with precision any of his
blows on this southpaw.
Starting with the bantamweight di
