Do not deco rate it with flimsy material hung too near candles or lights. Don’t decorate your tree with paper,. cotton or any inflammable material. Use tinsel or Other non-flammabje material for dec orations and be sure to set the tree se curely so that the children and even the “grown-ups”- inv reaching for things cannot tip it over. The tree ignites readily when leaves and branches are dry. A large number of fires occur in January from this cause. Do not use decorations near open gas jets or too near lights of any kind. One of the great factors in the growth of peace is the movie. It speaks not in words suitable for one people and not another, but by pic tures which are understandable by all. An Italian paper recently protested again the influence of American Hol lywood screens. This is like protest ing against the procession of equinox es. I have seen films all through Europe j and most of the American ones. Eu-1 ropeans are fond of American films, for the simplest of reasons in the world. They are better than the Eu ropean and cheaper. Against these two arguments it is useless to object. American films are steadily spread ing the democratic ideas of freedom and equality all over the world. Rufus W. Weaver, at a meeting of the trus tees here this afternoon. Dr. Dowell is president of Alabama Polytechnic institute (Auburn) and "resigned from; that institution, effective June l. Dr. Weaver resigned last Septem ber to become secretary of the educa tion board of the Southern Baptist convention, which controls the uni versity. merce.
