DISTRICT CONFERENCE The Piedmont district conference, United Daughters of the Confederacy, will be held April 16th, at Greenwood, S. C- at the First Baptist church, at 10 o’clock.. It is hoped .that every chapter will be represented. BEGINS SERIES OF "VANISHING PARTIES” On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. John Little entertained seven guests at the first of the "vanishing parties.” For several weeks these parties will be much in vogue, and those enjoying Mrs. Little’s kindness were: Mes- dames J. F. Jacobs, Sr.} T.*J. Peake, J. A. Chandler, Pat Kinard, Wilson Harris, Irby Hipp, and Miss Clara Duckett. FRIENDS ENJOY BIRTHDAY PARTY • Mlaa Carolina Burroughs delighted her little friends on Saturday after noon when she entertained with a lovely party, the occasion being her twelfth birthday. Easter decorations and favors prevailed. An Easter con test caused much excitement and Mary Howxe Dillard was the successful con- tostant and was presented with a box of candy. The subject for the meeting was “Eliz abeth, Frye.” “Life of Elizabeth Frye” was given by Mrs. D. W. A. Neville,” and “Prison Conditions in U. S.” by Mrs. A. V. Martin. R. Lynn, M. G. Wood- worth, D. W. A. Neville, Virginia Nev ille, 4- E. Spencer, John Spratt, H. E. , and Richard Starr. CHURCH WORKERS MEET IN LAURENS MOTHERS' CLUB WITH MRS. HUNTER Mrs. John Holland Hunter was a delightful hostess to the Mothers’ club on Thursday afternoon. Roll call was answered with the name of an historic church or educator. “South Carolina’s Contribution To Education” was ably given by Mrs. R. E. Jones. The election of officers was held, re sulting with Mrs. W. H. Simpson as president, and the former officers re elected. The hostess served a most bountiful salad course followed by block cream and cake. The following members were present: Mesdames R. F. Adair, P. S. Bailey, T. L. W. Bai ley, J. W. Dillard, L. B. Dillard, G. H. Ellis, J. W. Finney, R. E. Jones, J. T. Little, A. V. Martin, H. E. Stur geon, W. H. Simpson, J. Lee Young, H. M. Young. The following called for refreshments: Mesdames Gary Martin, Gus Hollingsworth, Roger Coe, Hugh Workman and John, Young. U. D. C. HOLDS MEETING FRIDAY The U. D. C. held an interesting meeting on Friday afternoon under the leadership of the new president, Mrs. C. M. .Bailey. After the ritual, Jie Lord’s prayer was repeated in con cert. An interesting program on Flor ida was arranged by Mrs. J. W. Dil lard. Roll call was answered with famous men and events in the history of Florida. Reading, “Orange Blos soms,” by Alice Benjamin. Music by chapter, “Swanee River.” Mrs. L. R. Lynn gave quite an interesting sketch of Florida. Vocal solo, “Bird Song,” Mrs. Gary Martin. Reading, “The Annual Meeting of the Woman’s Pres byterian Auxiliary To Be Held April 21 and 22. . The annual meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Presbytery of South Carolina, will be held with the First Presbyterian church of Laurens on April 21 and 22. The counties of Ab beville, McCormick, Greenwood, Lau rens and Newberry comprise the Pres bytery, and a large attendance from all the respective churches is expected. “We Would See Jesus” has been an nounced as the theme of the approach ing conference. The two-day program is as follows: Wednesday evening, April 20, Pres- byterial executive committee meeting. The speaker of the occasion will be the Hon. J. J. McSwain of Greenville,, a member of congress from this district, and Ben E. Adams of Charleston. Mr. Abercrombje was operating two I stores in Gaffney at the time of his i death, and was highly esteemed by the people of the community where he resided for the past seven years. His friends here learned with sorrow of his passing. / The deceased is survived by his wi dow and four children.
