In ke
its way into the peach tree at its
base and, does much damage to the
tree. Everyone 'knows the' damage
that is done to any tree by borers,
and sooner or later the borer will
kill the tree. Experiments have been
formed which have proven that the
peach borer can be controlled very
easily and with little cost by the uhe
of Paradichlorobensine. If you will
follow the instructions that I give to
you below, anyone may obtain the
very best results.
I have prices in my office on Para-
dichlorobenzine in large and small lots
and shall be glad to aid you in secur
ing same. I suggest that you get your
material on hand at once. I ordered
a few days ago 300 pounds of this
material for peach growers of our
county. The prices range from 25c
in 200 pound lots up to 50c in one
pound lots, f. o. b. Florence, S. C.
Recent experimental work has shown
that Paradichlorobenzine can be used
with safety on peach trees three years
of age and older in the South. For
trees five years and older the one
ounce dose is recommended add the
mounds need no further attention
after the trees ar«^ treated if the
weather conditions are normal. For
trees three and four years of age the
three>fourth ounce dose should be
used7 and the crystals should be re
moved from around the tr$e by tear
ing down the mounds twenty-eight
days after treating. The Paradich
lorobenzine treatment should not be
used on one year old and two year old
peach trees in the South.
Application should be made in
South Carolina between October 1st
and 15th. #
When the Paradichlorobenzine
treatment is to be used, the trees
should not be mounded during July,
as is the usual practice, but the sur
face of the soil around the trees should
be allowed ^o remain level.
Preparing the Soil: To prepare the
soil previous to* apply Paradichloro-
bezine remove all grass, " weeds, •

leaves, etc., from around the trunk of of th , e society and will lead the young
the tree, making a smooth flat bed
six to twelve inches wide. If the soH
,is lumpy, pulverize it. Do not break
the lower strata of soil more than
necessary; simply break the crust and
level off. The top of the bed should
be on a level with the'highest en
trance affected by the borers. Re
move all gum and woody exudations
from around the base of, the tree or at
the entrance of the burrows.
Applying and Covering the Treat
ment: When the bed has been prepar
ed apply the Paradichlorobenzine in
a narrow band reaching entirely
around the trunlrand at a distance of
two inches from the trunk. If it is
placed against the trunk, serious in
jury and death will occur; and if
placed farther than two inches away,
best results will not be obtained.
Cover each ring of Paradichloroben
zine with three to six inches of finely
pulverized earth, free from any sticks,
stones or vegetable matter, and firm
it with the back q|f the shovel. Don’t
stand off froifl the tree and throw a
shovelful of earth on the crystals and
thus scatter them, but hold the shovel
over the crystals and by shaking the
shovel sHift the earth on the«crystals
to cover them.
Removing the Treatment: It takes
from two to four weeks to kill the
people in their, church activities for
the year.

borers in the tree, the length of time
depending upon soil temperature. Re
move the crystals by pulling away the
earth at the end of the third week.
If the soil has been cold and wet, al
low the treatment to remain for about
six weeks before removing.
Purchase pure Paradichlorobenzine.
When pure, it is a white crystalline
solid which is insoluble in water and
vaporizes slowly at ordinary tempera
ture.

EE how that clutch collar is worn down. That
comes from keeping your foot on the pedal all
the time. "Keep it alongside where you can reach
the pedal in a jiffy, whenever you need to. If you
keep slipping the clutch like that the plates or sur
faces are going to get worn down quickly.” The
Fleet Boss knows what he is talking about. He has
learned by painful experience to watch out for details
such as this in order to cut down expensive repairs.
Profit by other people’s experience whenever you
can. Take this matter of motor oils. We have
been refining good lubricating oils for fifty-five
years. So when you buy " Standard ” Motor Oils
you are profiting by the accumulated experience of
two generations of refiners. No wonder ^Standard”
Motor Oils are the Fleet Boss’s choice in lubricants.
