Other Teams Begin Following Week. x \ -I Columbia, Sept. 15.—South Caro- |paa get*, ready for. football, while gridiron fans wait patiently for the gawtt of the referee's whistle and th^ ajfht of the pigskin warriers of the Palmetto state, as they trot out on field for the opening battles. It is scarcely two weeks before the football curtain goes up in practically iB of the colleges of the state and at the University of South Carolina. The Wofford Terriers will even hurry up their schedule and next Saturday jour- er »ey to Lexington, Va., where the Vir ginia Military institute will furnish the opposition^ Football coaches in the Palmetto; State are having very little to say at present concerning the prospects for ^te 1925 season, but at the same time they are all beginning to instruct the youth and remind the veteran of the gridiron that hard Work is necessary Vs shape the respective squad into for midable aggregations. The subject of the winter sport is already being discussed by fans on the streets. Speculations are in or der, and memories have their part in bringing to mind the letter men who will return to battle^ again or in re selling cei-tain veterans who have made their last stand on the field of ^Struggle. The fight in South Carolina is„ ex pected to grove interesting; but it is Hw early to tnajte predictions. It will swffice to say that the interest in the gridiron sport will probably be even teener than it was last season. A WALKER LEADS OVER HYLAN Returns Incomplete But New York Papers See Tammany Candidate Nominated by 100,000 Votes. New York, Sept. 15.—Senator Jas. J. Walker, Tammany designee for mayor, was leading John F. Hylan for the Democratic domination for mayor in today’s primary by 26,136 votes on returns from 995 out of 2,968. The vote: Walker, 80,698; Hylan, 54,562. Frank D. Waterman, regular Re publican mayoralty designee, was well ahead of William M. Bennett and John J Lyons, insurgent. \ "Walker by 100,000 was the con- whelming victory to the Tammany Candida tk sens us of the midnight editions of the metropolitan prose, with the ex ception of the American, which sup ported Mayor Hylan.
