L His Method (rr. 1-2).
Ha observed the divine order, to
the Jews first wherever he went (Acts

flesh, but whenever they proved them
selves unworthy, be turned to the Gen

v To Resorts As Breeding Places:
For Vice and a Menace.
Spartanburg, Sept. 7.—A scathing
denunciation of modern swimming
pools as breeding places of vice and
immodesty and as dangerous factorg
in the destruction of civilization's Ae
ry foundation was issued, by Judge C.
J. Ramage, presiding over a special
term of sessions court Monday morn
ing, in urging the Spartanburg grand
jury to throw some restraint about
these “places of vice.”
Judge Ramage declared that he is
not. surprised that God has visited a
calamity upon the country when pub
lic swimming pools are permitted to
operate and to bring disgrace upon
the communities in Which they flour
ish. «
Married men are intimate with
young girls, and married women dis
play marked preference for the so
ciety of boys and unmarried men at
these resorts, tjie judge declared in
denouncing public swimming places.
Judge Ramage, who is from Saluda,
stated that there are no public swim
ming places in his county, but that
residents of his section of the state
ride 30 miles in order to visit one of
the resorts which flourish in other
sections. These people go to swim
ming pools for other^reasons than to
take a dip, declared the judge.
“The man who introduced a bill in
the state legislature to abolish public
swimming pools,” said Judge Ramage,
“was working along the right lines.”
Judge Ramage deplored the fact
that the country is spending too much

tures. This is the business of all min
isters. to expound the Scriptures, to
prove their positions by the Word
Concerning the Christ, he set forth
three propositions:
(1) The Scriptures prove that
Christ must be a sufferer (v. 3). “It
behooved Christ to suffer.” No plain
er refef^nce need be made than Lsai
53, but it seems that the rabbis
that time had explained away the fact
of a saffdfiRg Messiah so that Yhe,
Jewish people were only looking for
a glorious and powerful king to come;
therefore they rejected. Christ because
of His lowly appearance. The same
method of exegesis Is employed by
many Bible teachers and preachers
today. Only the emphasis is placed
upon the literal suffering of the Mes
siah. while they spiritualize and al
legorize the teaching of the glorious
coihlng of the Messiah to Judge His
enemies and to reign upon the earth
(II Sam. 7:8-16; Isa. 53; Jrf. 23:5-8;
Zech. 9:14; Luke 1:1-13: Acts 15:14-
17).
(2) That Christ Must Rise Again
From the Dead (v. $).
This be proved by the Scriptures.
The resurrection of Christ and the
bodily resurrection of teiievers, needs
sound and practical exposition In our
churches today. "

He Proclaimed Did Suffer and ilise

“Idleness and extravagance,” he
predicted, “are going to bankrupt the
country,” and he urged thrift and
economy as the only preventative..
The people of the South inherited
iTTendency to idleness brought about
by negro slavery, he said. Befbre
the war there were t,wo classes of
white people here: one who did not
have to work and the other/who did
not have a chance to work. Negro
slavery was the greatest curse which
could ever befair a people, and- the
country is suffering from its effects
he said. It was a great bless
ing when the negro was freed, and
the negro migration to the North is
another great blessing to the South.
The negro’s going will work a hard
ship to a few, but in the long run it
will be beneficial, he predicted. Those
counties in South Carolina today em
ploying white labor are the counties
which are the prosperous.
Judge Ramage believes in a com
pulsory labor law. The compulsory
school attendance law has worked
well, he said, and that should be fol
lowed by a law requiring some gain
ful occupation no matter what a man
may be worth. Idlenesses the devil's
work-shop. It would be tetter for
any man to have to work, better for
his family and better for the country
at large, he added.
