Marsh marigolds in swamps, a brave

And little flowers of violet and blue.
The Gardner, God* has man a quaint
device
‘ Of tree and vine and shrub—and,
now and then,
He drops a gentian flower from the

For the great wonder and delight
of men. ' ,
He plants arbutus in a lonely place,
And linden trees that have a yellow
flower,
He spreads His dogwood like a veil
of lace
Over the azalea’s rosy shower.^ v
The Gardner, God, has gardens every-

By roadside, on the hill, and in the

And sometimes we can find Him
Watdhing His bowers as p gardner

GEORGE SMITH
ENTERTAINS FRIENDS
On Thursday Mr. George Smith en
tertained a number of his friends with
an evening of attractive entertain
ment. About twenty-five guests were
present and delightful' refreshments,
consisting of block cream, cake and
home-made candies, were served.
KIWANIS CLUB
HOST TO LADIES
On Friday evening the Kiwanis
members, wives, and friends, enjoyed
a delightful picnic jat the Bois-Terre
club. At seven thirty a menu consist
ing ofr.country ham, fried chicken, po-
tota salad, deviled eggs* sandwiches,
iced tea, pou^d cake, devil, and coco*-
nut cake, was served. All the ham 1 ”
for the occasion was furnished by Mr;,
and Mrs. George W. Young. After
lunch the' Radies presented the pro
gram of entertainment and for an
hour were successful in driving “dull
care away.” Mrs. L. B. Dillard ex
plained the nature of the entertain
ment, and instead of “Mother Goose
Rhymes” the ladies were presenting
“Father Goose Kiwanis Rhymes.” In
the Kiwanis | are many types: leans,
fats, shorts, longs, bald heads, “in*.
betweens” and “left-overs,” etc; but
each mate was quite proud of her own
selection, but used no compunction
whatsoever in securing other types.
The opening number was a song,'
“Little Liza Jane”, but as the ladies
wished to be the center of attraction
they rushed to the middle of the room.
Wihen the song was finished—a great
hean of dainty slippers was found,
amPthe explanation was offered that
some' Cinderellas were evidently look
ing, and that the Prince Charmings
would come forth, match these slip
pers, and find their partners for the
evening, and that a box of candy
would be presented the first success
