MOVES HOUSES
Just a few words in regards to the
cotton crop of 1925. The 1924 crop
was planned when cotton was 30 cents
a pound, but the 1925 Irop will have
to be planned on 22 cents cotton. If
any profit is to be expected it will
have to be ma<je cheaper this year
than last. You will ask how it can
be # done. Fertilizer will be higher,
labor about the same, feed higher, in
terest on money cheaper. Seems from
the above that it will be very hard
to ‘ make it cheaper. A few things
will help considerably when done.
First, using, good, pure seed. Mr. B.
R. T. Todd ox Barksdale, said that he
made 100 pounds more lint per acre
this year from sued ordered last win
ter from the breeder, than he did from
his old seed with conditions the same
in other respects.
North Carolina experiments for
1924 show that they made as high as
wheretheTr seed weiro^roperly separ
ated.. It only cost about 16 cents per
bushel to do this. Have germination
test run so you will khow how many
to planf to get a stand. About one-
tenth of the crop is lost on account
of the stand. Mix your own fertilizer
and save $10 per ton. Figure to’cut
out part of the overhead expense for
the present time, etp. All these things
will help. Seems that the South will
lose her supremacy in cotton product
ion on account of the foreign coun
tries, for they can grow it so much
cheaper than we can.
Boys and Girls Club Work
All farm boys and girls should be
enrolled in club work for the year of
1925. We had 164 club members in
Laurens county last year. Up to date
we have 108 enrolled for this year.
There are many advantages to club
work that I cannot explain in this
short article but will give you some
of the things that the club boys and
girls did in 1924.
The boys can join the following
clubs: Corn, Cotton, Peanut, Irish
Potatoes, Poultry, Dairy, Calf and
Pig club. The only club that we have
for the girls is Poultry club, due to
not having a home demonstration
agent in the county. I have made ar
rangements for any, boy or &irl who
joins the Poultry club to get pure
bred eggs or baby chicks by signing
a note with their father’s or guardi
an’s name on it. They can either get
Rhode Island Reds or White Leg
horns under the above condition. This
note is Without interest until the fall
of the yean The club member can
use any pure breed of chickens that
they wish te for their demonstration.
The following things were done by
the club boys and girls of 1924: There
was a three day encampment held at
(slemson College last summer and we
had 62 club members to attend this
encampment. Many of the boys re
ported that they had the biggest time
they have ever had in their lives.
Many more boys would have gone if
it had not been for the weather condi
tions at the time the encampment was
held. 29 club members hacf exhibits
at* the County Poultry and Club Show.
An average of the net profits of all
the record books sent in for each club
member was $30 each. Some made
more than $30, while others made less.
We had two boys to get on the Dis
trict Livestock Judging Tteam out of
a possible three. One of these boys
was selected for the state team and
went to the State Fair for one week
with all expenses paid. Each club
member receives $ copy of the chib
boys paper once a month free of
charge. Four one-week free scholar
ships are given to four boys doing the
best club work and five are given to
the girls. If enough girls join the
club during the year of 1925, we are
planning an encampment for the girls
and there will be a three day encamp
ment at some point for the boys.

this club I wish you would send me
their name, address, age and the kind
of club they wish to join and name of
school. I would be glad to enroll
them.

The hopes of the disciples were ut
terly shattered when Jesus told them
about the cross. Jesus had told them

they could net follow Him. Their
hearts were flooded with grief. He con
soled them by

Even as God (v. 1). Faith in ths God-

heart, no matter how Intense the grief
or how great the sorrow.

He aasured them that there was abun
dant room for all. Heaven Is an eter

II. Revealing the Way to tha Fa
ther’s House (vv. 4-11).
Jesus informed the disciples that
they knew the place to which He was
going and the way. To this Thomas
Interposed a doubt. In answer to which
Christ asserts that He is
1. The Way to God (v. 6). He Is
something more than a mere, guide or
teacher. He is the way itself. Be is
the door of the sheep-fold.
2. The Truth (v. 6). He is not mere
ly the teacher, but the truth incarnate.
In His incarnation the spiritual and
material worlds were united, there
fore every line of truth whether spir
itual or material converges in Him. No
one who does not have Christ can ever
have the real truth about anything. In
Him we have the truth about man,
wbat he is, what he ought to be, and
what he shall be in eternity. In Him
especially we have the truth about
God.
3. The Life (v. 6). Christ is not
merely the giver of life, but He Is the
essence of life. Only those who re
ceive Christ have life In the true sense.
Since He is God incarnate, to know
Him Is to know God.
i til. Assuring Them That Hia Work
Waa to Continue (vv. 12-14).
Jesus’ going away was not to end
the work which He had begun. This
no doubt meant that through the min
istry of the Spirit-illled disciples, the
work which Christ began would as
sume, larger proportions. There would
be a much greater number of conver
sions than under His ministry. After
the Day of Pentecost the gospel did
take a much wider range. During His
ministry the message was confined to
the Jews, while under the ministry of
the disciples it was only- limited by
the world Itself. The disciples’ min
istry was ushered in by the conversion
of three thousand in one day.
IV. Promts** Another Comforter
(yv. 12-1T).
-The word comforter means literally
one called to the side of another to
give help, -protection and deliverance.
This comforter was the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was the Comforter while here
in the body. The Holy Spirit was to
be “another comforter.”
V. Aesuring Thom of Hie- Return to
Th*m (vv. 18-24).
Although Christ went away He did
not leave His disciples as orphans.
The Father and the Son make their
abode with the disciples who love and
obey Jesus Christ. '
VI. Assuring Them That th* Holy
Spirit Would Aid Them in Remember,

(vv. 25-26).
This the Holy Spirit does by Illu
minating the minds of the disciples.
VII. Giving the Legacy of Hia Peace
<w. 22-31).
By His peace is meant the serenity
of soul which one enjoys who la recon
ciled to God, who knows that his sins
are forgiven.
