We have had a ease with smallpox that moved in here from another state. This case was properly quar antined and cared for, and we had only one case contracted from this focus, and he moved the case here. Neither one of these cases had ever been vaccinated. Science has abso lutely proved that by continued vac- cina'tion and re vaccination, that the dread disease of smallpox, (carrying with it not oAly the lawful rigid quarentining but inconvenient condi tions and heavy costs) may be com pletely* eliminated. In early years of specific prophy- lajtiA-Jigjttnafc_small}^x r _arm^ ton was common. " This lorm of vaccination was opened to serious criticism, and often carried a severe infected arm, that made people skepti cal in giving up to vaccination, but now with all the precautions employ ed in the psoduction of our best equip ped and scientific houses and with the proper thechnique of vaccination, with an individual tube and scarifer, all aseptic, there is no danger, and a lit tle sanitary dimple is the only mark that should remain. Smallpox has been reported in 35 states this year, and some places the mortality has been as high as 40 per cent. The Board of Health is anxious that we may be able to stamp out small pox and all vulnerable points that are liable to have smallpox, by immuniz ing every person by vaccination and re-vaccination. The question of immunizing an in dividual is not when one might have been vaccinated, but whether your vaccination will take or not, as often as your arm takes the vaccination, that shows your system is not im- muned against the disease, apd that you would be a subject to exposure though the disease might be modified | to a milder type. The state law com- That all licenses issued i pels all school children to be vaoci- under and by virtue of this Ordinance shall be non-tvansferable and ex cept a license for a day, a week or a month, shall terminate and end on nated to attend school and recom mends vaccination every five yeirs, whether there be an ep demic or not. In case of an epidemic one should the 31st day of December of the year j be vaccinated every two weeks until in which they were issued; but may j a “take” is secured, unless you are be revoked at any tme by the Town Council of the Town of Clinton on satisfactory cause being shown.
