Whereas, a petition of the freehold
ers of the Town of Clinton asking
for an election to be held in the Town
of Clinton, S. C., on % question of
the issuance of not exceeding Seventy
Thousand ($70,000) Dollars of bonds
of said Town, the proceeds of said
bonds to be used for the purpose of
enlarging and extending the water
works system of said 'town and not
exceeding Thirty Thousand ($3(h000)
Dollars of bonds of the said Town
of Clinton, the proceeds of said bonds
to be used for the purpose of enlarg
ing and extending the sewerage sys
tem of said Town, was presented to
the Town Council of said Town on the
7th day of July, and;
Whereas, upon a check of said peti
tion, it appeared that the petition
was signed by a majority of the free
holders of the said Town of Clinton,
S C
THEREUPON the following ordi
nance was duly adopted:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOV/N
OF CLINTON, LAURENS COUN
TY, SOUTH CAROLINA, IN COUN
CIL ASSEMBLED:
Sec. 1. That the petition presented
to Town Council and duly filed in the
records of the Town asking for an
election on the question of the issu
ance of not exceeding Seventy Thous
and ($70,000) Dollars of bonds of the
Town of Clinton, the nroceeds to be
used for the purpose pi enlarging and
extending - the waterworka- ayatem ot
said Town and not exceeding Thirty
Thousand ($30,000) Dollars of bonds
of said Town, the proceeds to be used
for the purpose of enlarging and ex
tending the sewerage system of said
Town of Clinton, contains the names
of more than a majority of the free
holders of said Town of Clinton, and
it is so declared.
Sec. 2. That an election be held in
the Town of Clinton, Laurens County,
South Carolina, on Tuesday, the 5th
day of August, 1924, at which will be
submitted to the qualified electors of
said Town the question of the issu
ance of not exceeding Seventy Thous
and ($70,000) Dollars of bonds of the
Town of Clinton, the proceeds to be
used for the purpose of enlarging and
extending the waterworks system of
said Town and not exceeding Thirty
Thousand ($30,000) Dollars of bonds
of said Town, the proceeds to be used
for the purpose of enlarging and ex
tending the sewerage system of said
Town of Clinton. The issuance of
said bonds shall be submitted as sep
arate propositions and shall be voted
on separately, the ballots on each
question to be deposited in separate
boxes, on one of said ballots shall be
printed or written the words “Shall
the Town of Clinton issue ita bonds
in the sum of not exceeding Seventy
Thousand ($70,000) Dollars, the pro
ceeds of said bonds to be used for
the purpose of enlarging and extend
ing the waterworks system of saic
Town? YES—NO.” And the voter
voting in favor of the issuance of said
bonds shall strike out the word “NO”
before depositing his ballot in the

Instantly Killed

Woman Loses Life In Accident
Near Gaffney.
Gaffney,July 27.—Mrs. Nancy Ia>d-
ford, 74 years of age, was instantly
killed today on the national highway
near Blacksburg, when the car in
which she was riding turned over
when a car loaded with negroes stand
ing on the side of the road suddenly
backed into the road, as James Lilly,
who was driving the Ledford‘car, at
tempted to pass the negro car.
Mrs. Ledford’s death was instantan
eous and was caused by a sharp piece
of the broken wind shield which pene
trated her head. The negroes drove
off at a fast rate immediately after
the accident, and Sheriff Wright and
lis deputies are looking for them.
Mr. Lily was severely bruised on an
arm and was taken to Blacksburg to
the residence of D. W. Carlin, where
le gave a statement of the circum
stances surrounding the accident.
Jesse Murray and his wife, who is a
daughter of Mrs. Ledford, were also
in the car but were unhurt-
ive in Greenville, andwere on tneir
way to Blacksburg to spend the day
with Mr. Carlin, who is a relative of
Mrs. Ledford.
The accident occured ’about 12:30
o’clock, and the body of Mrs. Ledford
was left at the scene of the accident,
while Coroner Parker held an inquest
over the remains. There is a low rock
wall on the side of the road and Mr.
Lilly in trying to avoid a collision
wth the negro car ran over the waH,
which caused his car to turn over.
This is said to be the third accident
at this point today.
