HARRELL GAUGHT
IN NASHVILLE
ADMITS TO OFFICERS THAT HE
WAS ACCOMPLICE IN MURDER
OF MAJOR McLEARY.
Nashville, Tenn., July 22.—Frank
Harrell, sought as an accomplice in
the murder of Major Samuel H. Mc-
Leary at Cheraw, S. C., on July 2, is
a prisoner in the Nashville police sta
tion and has made a confession to
Chief Robert Sidebottom of the local
detective department, the latter says,
admitting that lie was with Mortimer
N. King, already under arrest on the
charge of murder, when the killing
took place. He is quoted as saying
that King did the actual? killing.

the country have been searching fol-

noon in South Nashville, with him
was his brother, Gerald. The men
were arrested on a charge of vagran
cy. At the polie-e-station Harrell was

was started for Major McLeary’s
slayers.
Brought to the detective office this
morning, the men were interrogated
by Chief Robert Sidebottom, and
Frank Harrell, it is stated, soon ad
mitted he was the man sought as
King’s accomplice in the, murder, the
chief said.
Officers have not yet checked his
wanderings, but his flight brought
him to Nashville only a few days
ago. He had followed in the news
papers, it is said, the reports of the
search being instituted for him and
was using the reports as a means to
keep away from the law. He left
South Carolina shortly after the cap
ture of King.
Harrell will be held here pending
action of the South Carolina officials.

the campaign of John W. Davis, Dem
ocratic presidential nominee, which
