It would mean an abundance bf surplus power for en couraging and developing new en terprises and would supply power at a much cheaper cost to the con sumer than is now afforded under municipal ownership. We believe the Southern-Power people will be glad to come into Clinton if the proper eneoura'ge- ment is given. We trust that the matter will be gone into thorough ly upon their representative’s visit here and that the entire facts in the case will be laid before our people fieifIfffornretftrcrand rwisirif r at ion. Who would ever have thought that the Wofford squad would be sudi poor losers. THE POOR, glad to REMEMBER The Chronicle is very carry a notice in today’s paper an nouncing that under.the leadership of Miss Mar); Bean, the unfortunate inmates of the county home will b’e remembered on Thankgsiving. The late .Mr. Thos. C. Scott always made a canvass of the town to col lect gifts for this purpose and his visit to the home each Thanksgiving 'and Christmas was always looked forward to with considerable inter est by the inmates and afforded them a great deal of happiness. Now that 'Miss Bean and the young ladies of her circle have volunteered to take up this work, we trust that they will tind a liberal response from our people. We, who have so much to.be thankful for, should pause for -a moment and think of those who are less fortunate than ourselves, those.who have been de nied even the necessities of life. Think of what this little kindness will mean to these folks, of the hap piness it will bring into their souls. Those who desire to have a share in this noble charity are asked to communicate with Miss Bean at once. Wc trust she will find a lib eral response. , AX INFORMATION BUREAU. At the meeting of the Com mercial Club last Tuesdav, the mat- f ^ ter of the scarcity of living accom odations in the city was brought up for discussion and pointed out as one of the city’s most pressing needs just at this time. We are several years behind in building ac tivities, therefore the shortage of houses is becoming a most serious factor in the development of the town. To further assist in relieving this condition, an information bu reau was appointed by the club. It will be the work of this'committee to stimulate the building of houses for rent, to eplleet data as to pres ent houses for rent, rooms offered for light-housekeeping, and a list of families who arc willing to ac cept boarders. If this committee is given the proper cooperation a great deal.wUl be accomplished towards providing living accomodations to the city’s newcomers. It’s a serious question just now as wc have before stated, and the sooner the matter is looked squarely in the face and some relief given, the better for the town and community. THE BOND ISSUE FOR STREET IMPROVEMENT The action of city council iu or dering an election on the question of voting bonds for the purpose of street improvement has our hearty support as well a.s that of many other citizens who have signed the petition praying for an election in the hope that the tax-payers of the town will decide favorably on this progressive move. The issue to be decided is- Shall the Town of Clinton issue bonds to the amount of 'One Hun dred Thousand Dollars bearing in terest at a rate not to exceed, five per cent per annum and payable annually in the sum of two, four and five thousand dollars from 192 to 1950 inclusive, the proceeds to be applied exclusively for the pur pose of building, erecting and maintenance of streets in the Town of Clinton? This is the question the qualified electors are asked to decide on Dee. 9th, and considera ble interest will dotibtless be mani fested in the election. That it is time for Clinton to take this progressive step is a state ment that needs little discussion. If we are to go ahead and take our place along side of other similar towns, the matter of street improve ment, which we are far behind in, needs our attention. Other towns that have tackled this problem are well pleased with the results and all are unanimous in the opinion that street building is one of the most profitable investments any city can take. Therefore, we are hoping that our folks will fall in line, face this progressive move ment squarely in the face and roll up a large and enthusiastic vote in favor of the bond issue. Just what is' proposed, the amount of mielage the issue will cover, etc., has not been publicly stated. This information should be laid before our people by the iety council in order that the tax payers may know’ what is con templated and therefore be enabled to decide* the issue all the more favorably and intelligently. vember, 1919.
