T T * SOCIETY. Two delightful parties to their friends in honor of Mrs. L. St. Clair J3ays r a bride of a few weeks, were those given on Friday mom- •■mg and -afternoon ‘by Mrui Mi J Hays and Mrs. W. B. Owens, Jr. Summer flowers were used in profusion which made the rooms very attractive. Assisting in the morning were Mrs. J. A. Chandler, Mrs. Julia Griffin and Msses Melenee Thornley and Emily Phillips. Tables were arranged for Rook and several hands played during which deli cious mints were enjoyed. Cake and cream were served. In the afternoon Mrs. James R. Copeland and Mrs. Julia Griffin welcomed the guests at the door and Mrs. Jodie Chandler, introduc- Graham. The home was lovely in its decorations of daisies. Tables were arranged for Rook and sev eral hands enjoyed. The hostess, assisted by her mother, served de licious cream and cake. Friday afternoon Miss Helen Bailey entertained the girl^s of the Junior Christian Endeavor Society of which she is leader. Copeland and Rose Cornel- son, who certainly succeeded in making the afternoon one full of fun. Old Mother Goose, Boy Blue, Bo-Peep and various other charac ters were there. Lemonade and cake were served. Those present were Misses Rose Williams, Cleon were then refreshed with punch served by Misses Mary Owens and Dorcas Mason: The afternoon was pleasantly spent in playing Rook. An ice course, cake and mints were served. About sixty guests enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. Hays and Mrs. Owens. A party that was thoroughly en joyed was that given on Thursday morning when Miss Melle Burgess entertained a number of friends. The house was pretty with its vases of sunflowers which added bright ness to the home. Progressive Rook was enjoyed for an hour or two, after which a delicious salad course with iced tea and mints were serv ed. Miss Burgess’ out-of-town guests were Misses Carrie Fleming and Harriet Simpson, of Laurens, and Miss Mary Andei^on, of Gre«n- ville. Other guests were Misses Mary Ruth Copeland, Mary Owens, Helen Bailey, Sarah Hunter, Fran ces 0’Daniel, Sarah Frances Glenn, Julia Neville, Elizabeth Young, Irene Wilburn and Mary Stokes. Miss Jeane Wright was hostess on Friday afternoon when she en tertained the young girls club at her home in ‘‘The Woods”. Rook was enjoyed and a good many kodak pictures taken. Delicious cream, cake and punch were serv ed to the following guests: Misses Lillian Barrow, Mary Copeland, 'Emmie Pitts, Martha Phillips, Em-, ily Davi,s .Lelia Norman. Virginia Moore, Lores Adair, Martha David son and Maiy Carrigan, of Society Hill. Miss Lillian Barrow will #■ be the next hostess to the club and will entertain at an early date. ' —o— * Wednesday evening Miss Sarah Hunter delightfully entertained in honor of her attractive guest, Miss Mary Anderson, of Greenville. A delicious course supper was served, after which the evening proved to be one of fun. Those who enjoyed this hospitality were: Misses An derson, of Greenville, Helen Bailey,. Mary Owens, Esse Copeland, Melted Burgee, Frances O’Daniel and Mary Stokes. Much merriment was caused Thursday afternoon by the little folks when little Miss Virginia Kel- lars celebrated her fifth birthday. Various games were played and at a late hour the guests were served ice cream and cake which was the delight of the children. Each guest ^before leaving, was presented with > gift, the girls being given a fan tod the boys, a balloon. The Acteon *Boolc Club and*a few friends were entertained on Satur day afternoon by Mrs. Bothwell proved to be quite successful Those present were Misses Fran ces Williams, Clara Louise O’Dan iel, Margaret Copeland, Virginia Benjamin, Myrtle Spoon, Alden Bailey, Marion Copeland and Ben nett Godfrey. Miss Bailey served delightful cream and cake. Friday afternoon on the beauti ful lawn of Miss Connie Bailey’s a Mother Goose party was given by the younger children of the Ju nior Christian Endeavor. The en tertainment was in charge of Miss es Elizabeth Douglas, Thelma Coff- Millinjg, Agnes Shelley, Dudley Cosby, Bessie Jones, Margaret Douglas, Nora Spoon, Janette Crawford, Janet”" Leake, Sarrah Copeland and Rfechel O’Daniel. Wednesday afternoon Master John William Dillard celebrated his fifth birthday by entertaining quite a number of his little friends at a birthday party. Games of all sorts were played and the little folks had a good time. Fourth of July souvenirs were used, emblems being on the cake.
