CROWD FAVORS
LODGE’S STAND
Anti-League Meeting Held in Boston.
Soldier Not Heard. Man in Uniform
Asks for Voice but is Benicd with
Senators (Jh’eir IVeferenoe.
Boston, March 8.—Resolutions- in
dorsing the attitude of Senator Lodge
towards the proposed league .. of _na-
tions and opposing the acceptance of
the constitution of the league in its
present form were adopted at a meet
ing at Tremont Temple tonight. A
man in uniform w^io demanded from
the floor the right to speak on the res
olution failed to get a hearing.
Attacks on Ihe league by Senators
Borah and Thomas ami Former Sen
ator Beveridge, drew yrequent ap
plause. A minority at times interrupt
ed the speakers to dissentNaut counter
demonstrations drowned their voices.
When Senator Borah declared no pro
vision for the freedom of Ireland had
been made he started a demonstration
that was helped along by a young wo-
man in the gallery who unfurled the
flag of the “Republic of Ireland.’’
As the meeting >was ealled to order,
a man in the audience called for Three
cheers for the president and got them,
but after that those who sympathized
with the speakers had the meeting
■well in han/1.
Resolution opposing the adoption /
the constitution of the league in -its
present form to be sent to the peace
conference and the United States sen
ate, were offered. The greater part of
the audience rose in approval and the
band striking -up “The Star Spangled
Banner’’ brought the others to their
feet. ; . ^
Three speakers later -addressed an
offlverflow meeting of several thousand
persons in the streets.
King will have his Milli
nery Opening Wednesday
