A delightful e'voning was spent
on,Monday, when Mrs. J. P. Jacobs,
Jr., entertained at a surprise birth
day dinner in honor of her husband.
The secret of the party was so well
kept that not until the guests ar
rived did Mr. Jacobs know that he
vvas the- honoree. Besides Mr.
Jacobs, .Another guest of honor was
Miss B. Copeland, whose birthday
was the same day. Soon after the
guests arrived they were invited in
to the dining room. The table was
beautifully decorated, the eentrr
piece being a birthday., oake» or
w hich were numerous small red eai
dies. - Red hearts and cupids wit;
red candles were used m profusion.
The dinner was served in four
courses to the following guests: Mr.
and Mirs. Geo. A. Copeland, Mr.
Pringle Copeland. Miss B. Cope
land, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs,
"Sr., Mr. Tbos. E>. Jacobs and Miss
,Clara Duckett.
Tuesday evening .Mr. and Mrs.
W, II. Shands entertained the fol

to this club. In spite of the inclem
ent weather a good time w r as had.

Duckett. The dining room looked
lovely with its. decorations of yel-
Jow daffodils and jonquils. In the
middle of the table was a large cut
glass basket, filled with ferns and
daffodils with yellow fulle decora-
•tions and w«s flanked with tapers
in yellow holders. A course dinner
was served by Masses Shands and
Minims. The evening was a most
enjoyable one.
A n attractive and thoroughly
enjoyable affair was the meeting of
the young ladies clqb on' Saturday
evening with Miss Peggy Dunlap.
The guests were invited into the
dining room where . a ^delicious
course supper was served.
The table was attractive In its
decorations of red, white and.blue,
the ’guests finding their places by
little patriotic cards. ^
Over the table was a large Unit
ed States flag. The centre-piece
was presumably a portion of George
Washington’s cherry tree and on
and around' it were a number of
hatchets, each of which held the
fortune of « member of the club. Af
ter supper these were drawn and
read aloud, causing much amuse
ment. Sewing and conversation
were enjoyed, making the evening
a most pleasant one. Those pres
ent were Misses Marjorie Spencer,.
Miry Bom. Tad la Edwards, Julia
Neyillo. Belle Free, Caroline Cald
well and Mrs. M. J. McFadden.
Mr., and Mrs. T. D. Copeland
were hosts on Friday evening whet}
they entertained a few friends.
The evening was enjoyed and a
coilrse supper served to the follow
ing guests: Dr. and Mrs. M. J. Mc
Fadden, Mr. and Mfrs. L. B. Dil
lard, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Copeland,
Jr., and Mrs;. Julia Griffin.

The G. G. Q. Club thoroughly en-,
joyed its meeting on Friday after
noon whenrthey met with “Miss B.
Copeland. An interesting contest
was enjoyed, each member of the
club seeing how many words they
could make out of the name, George
Washington. Miss Rowena Jones
proved to be most successful making
in all eighty-six words.
The dining room then proved the
attraction where the Washington
spirit was prevalent. A big cherry
pic in the middle of the table was
of much interest. Ribbons were

game, P, C. winning by a score of

On Thursday night the P, C.
team expects to play Wofford and
this game will be .one of the best

good crowd will see the game and
