The secret of the party was so well kept that not until the guests ar rived did Mr. Jacobs know that he vvas the- honoree. Besides Mr. Jacobs, .Another guest of honor was Miss B. Copeland, whose birthday was the same day. Soon after the guests arrived they were invited in to the dining room. The table was beautifully decorated, the eentrr piece being a birthday., oake» or w hich were numerous small red eai dies. - Red hearts and cupids wit; red candles were used m profusion. The dinner was served in four courses to the following guests: Mr. and Mirs. Geo. A. Copeland, Mr. Pringle Copeland. Miss B. Cope land, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, "Sr., Mr. Tbos. E>. Jacobs and Miss ,Clara Duckett. Tuesday evening .Mr. and Mrs. W, II. Shands entertained the fol lowing guests at dinner i Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Copeland, J. W. Copeland, Jr., Mrs. James Sprint, of Dilloft, and Mjsses Jette Dillard and Emmie Robertson. . Again on Tuesday afternoon Mis-* Emmie Robertson was hostess to this club. In spite of the inclem ent weather a good time w r as had. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor expect to leave at an early date for Brazil where they go as missionaries un der the. Southern Presbyterian Mission Board. The dining room looked lovely with its. decorations of yel- Jow daffodils and jonquils. In the middle of the table was a large cut glass basket, filled with ferns and daffodils with yellow fulle decora- •tions and w«s flanked with tapers in yellow holders. A course dinner was served by Masses Shands and Minims. The evening was a most enjoyable one. A n attractive and thoroughly enjoyable affair was the meeting of the young ladies clqb on' Saturday evening with Miss Peggy Dunlap. The guests were invited into the dining room where . a ^delicious course supper was served. The table was attractive In its decorations of red, white and.blue, the ’guests finding their places by little patriotic cards. ^ Over the table was a large Unit ed States flag. The centre-piece was presumably a portion of George Washington’s cherry tree and on and around' it were a number of hatchets, each of which held the fortune of « member of the club. Af ter supper these were drawn and read aloud, causing much amuse ment. Sewing and conversation were enjoyed, making the evening a most pleasant one. Those pres ent were Misses Marjorie Spencer,. Miry Bom. Tad la Edwards, Julia Neyillo. Belle Free, Caroline Cald well and Mrs. M. J. McFadden. Mr., and Mrs. T. D. Copeland were hosts on Friday evening whet} they entertained a few friends. The evening was enjoyed and a coilrse supper served to the follow ing guests: Dr. and Mrs. M. J. Mc Fadden, Mr. and Mfrs. L. B. Dil lard, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Copeland, Jr., and Mrs;. Julia Griffin. ' Quite a number of f riends enjoy, ed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Hurbert Pitts on Thursday evening. * They entertained at a four course dinner, the following friends enjoy ing the evening until «a late hour; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Barrow, Miss Lillian Barrow, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Burdette, Mr. and Mrs. J. Af. Pitts, Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Warren Finney, Mr. and Mrs. Parks Adair, and Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Much furi. was had when little Miss Lydia Vance Copeland appeared with the birth day oake, bringing it in on a silve' waiter. The “cake was cut and for tune favors were cut from- it by the following young folks: Mr. Flan agan cutting the thimble, the heart going to Miss Thelma Coffman, the wish-bone to Mr. 'Sims. the money to Mr. Hay <and the button to Miss Nell Copeland. 1 •) The guests who enjoyed this pleasant evening with ,JJlss Cope land were Misses Emily Phillips, Thelma Coffmn, Elizabeth Douglas, Mercer Vance and Messrs. Club thoroughly en-, joyed its meeting on Friday after noon whenrthey met with “Miss B. Copeland. An interesting contest was enjoyed, each member of the club seeing how many words they could make out of the name, George Washington. Miss Rowena Jones proved to be most successful making in all eighty-six words. The dining room then proved the attraction where the Washington spirit was prevalent. A big cherry pic in the middle of the table was of much interest. Ribbons were Truthe Presbyterian College gym. between P. C. and Newborn". A large • crowd witnessed the game, P, C. winning by a score of 2f> to 10. • r ► On Thursday night the P, C. team expects to play Wofford and this game will be .one of the best % * j - played this year.
