Red Cross Matters Our icgular tln>e for meeting from now on will be on the first Tuesday afternoon of each week, at 4 o’clock, at Headouarters. It is hoped that all who are interested in Red Cross ac tivities will bear tMs in mind, as It is not our purpose to ask for further an nouncement from the pulpits of the town. AH chairmen-hf committees and members of the Executive Committee are especially urged not to forget tnis date and to always be there. It will be a pity for a large part of bur people to indulge in the idea that there is no more Red Cross work to do since the Armistice. Even if the -war is not renewed there i? much to do in helping to rehabilitate those terri-. lories that have been desolated. Amer ica is surely not going to turn to its own affairs entirely and forget those who have suffered in our stead. We are surely not going to lose the lessons we shpuld have learned and substitute selfishness for sypipatry and thus be found wanting. If we do we shall.turn what should be a blessing into a blank, and probably into a curse. But the organinzation is turning its aftention to Home Service . in which we are to apply the lessons we have Wanted—Girls to ' operate * electric power scvrfng'nTindvitres making" ovef- alls. C., $100 Reward, $100 The readers of this paper will be pleased to learn that there is at least one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure In all its stages and that is catarrh. Catarrh being greatly influenced by constitutional conditions requires constitutional treatment.—HaU’e ministries and self-protection and im provement. At Clinfon, where we have no Associated Charities, the Chapter should turn its attention in large m^aanro in, this lino pf wnrk. Catarrh Medicine is taken Internally and acts thru the Blood on the Mucous Sur faces of the System thereby destroying the foundation of the disease, giving the patient strength by building up the con-^ stitutlon and assisting nature in doing itsf work. The 'proprietors have so much faith in the curative power of Hall's Catarrh Medicine that they offer One Hundred Dollars for any case that It fails to cure. Send for list of testimonials. Address F. Now the general organization is ask ing whether we are-prepared to take up this work. The answer of the vari ous officera has been a kind of doubt ful yes, because we were uncertain how far we hage our thousand mem bers with us. We want to organize a strong Home Service committee for our whole territory, who will keep a close watch on health conditions. This is a matter of economic importance as well Christian service that most of our people lose sight of. We want people to learn to keep their homes sanitary, to ward off pestilence disease because these conditions ^are too expensive. And where there is sick ness we want to see that there is pro per care and ministry. One unsanitary home, one home in which there is dls- eaes, whether white or colored, is a menace to everybody In communi ty. Self-protection dictates (precau tion. No man liveth to himself, sick ness is a costly luxury. v We want to have large classes form ed in Home Nursing and First Aid and Santation, and p^gople taught hojv to care for their sick and injured and thus shve life and time and money. Our .nursing* committee is enrolling members now- for at least two of these classes. Ladies can afford to let other things stand aside somewhat .in cyder to take these courses. It will pay. The good Samartan spirit means to help those who cannot help th^mselVes to help them to help themselves. A moment’s thought will show fhat it rests financially and morally and practically to our own personal ben- ifit. • We want to lay proper foundations for the next generation by trtiching the Juniors and we are taking steps in this direction. Who can fail to be inter ested? We must not forget those who have borne the brunt of this war, the en listed men* and their' families, hi any l jtfbfit inr%ome- tftrw of need.~WKcn aif pul 1 together in such matters a great deal can be ac complished (With very little effort or expense on the part of any individual. Company "THE HOME MAKERS" It must be pure thoughtfulness •when people indulge in criticism of the Canteen Service, because, as they al lege, the War is over. These men trav eling to demobilization camps or going home with their honorabie discharges in their pockets have'done all they could, all they were asked to do, whether they went across or not—Are we to show lack of appreciation, lack of ordinary gratitude. It is cer tainly a little thing for us to do to give them a sandwich an apple or an as orange, a cigarette or some candy, and a postcard, with a cherry smile and a “God bless you’’and something to read, and send them on their way with the and-j-censciousuess that they have been and are appreciated. Some of us happen to know of cases where men who have offered their all and done their best, have, in returning home, gone a whole diy with nothing to eat except a sand- ivrich they have paid three and four prices for, and with a feeling that the bottom had dropped out and people were already forgetting—just because Canteen Committed along their route of travel were not on the job, or were listening to cavilers iwho don’t think. Clinton has made a great reputation rfil over our country by its Canteen Service and we hope that reputation will be sustained by ho let up till the last ealisted man and woman are re- ! turned to civil life and the war is in deed over. Lot me say, then, to the Can teen workers that they never did better work than they, can do now and it is to be hoped they will maintain our re putation by.meeting every passenger and troop train punctually and puncti liously till the last man is discharged. If any mean to be quitters,—»we hope there are none such—then they should turn in their insignia to their captains or the Canteen Chairman. Now is the time to show the real mettle that i s in you, when the halo seems to'be fading but the glory is still there. ~~ ‘ ’ — ■ .D. 7 FERTILIZER ▼ AADK HARK REGISTERED. gaajjjEjlgptgS My life’s work has been devoted to the improvement of Southern Crops and Soils. • TV F.
