within the next week or two. Mr.

As a result of the resignation of F.
M. Mack as first lieutenant of the
Tom 'Hall Uuards, Company G, First
regiment, N. Q. S. C.t a competitive
examination will be held in the company's
armory next Monday evening
for a second lieutenant, Second Lieutenant
R. P. Orier, Jr., having been
automatically promoted to the vacancy
in the first lieutenancy. It is
stated that Sergts. tvobert Bennett
and W. B. Ardrey will be the contestants
for the second lieutenancy.
The first snow of the season fell
in Fort Mill Sunday night, to be lol-.
lowed by another snowfall Tuesday
night, a part of which is yet to be
seen in secluded places. The mild
weather which had characterized the
fall up to a few days ago has at last
given way to lower temperatures and
there have been heavy frosts in this
section for several mornings during
the last week.
"The Palmetto Follies of 1923" will
be presented at the the Fort Mill
high school auditorium Friday evening,
Deceml er 15, under the auspices
of Eli Bailos post, American
Legion. The show is a musical comedy
revue, with minstrel and vaudeville
features and has been given to
large audiences at King's Mountain,
Mooresvllle, Shelby and other North
Laroina towns. A number of Fort

Both the mills of the Fort Mill Manufacturing
company were closed
down Tuesday as a result of low water
In the Catawba river curtailing
the amount of electric power the
Southern Power company is now able
to furnish its subscriber millB in thi j
section of the State and mills iu the
lower section of North Carolina for
operating purposes. The group of
mills affected by the low water in the
'Catawba will close, one day in each
week, most of them on Tuesday, according
to the arrangement, until the
supply of power again becomes normal.
