fitting tribute to make the turkey
parade a part of the Armistice day
celebration. The parade of the tur'
keys is a prelude to their slaughter.
Before the day of their glory is pndr
ed they pass through the packing
house and perhaps are on the way in
refrigerator cars to the markets of
the country.
The raising of turkeys for market
is one of the chief Industries of the
farmers near Cuero- The fowls serve
a double -purpdse. They feed largely
' upon the boll weevil and boll worm
lu the cotton fields, thereby enabling
the production of larger crops of cotton
than otherwise would be the case,
and when thus fattened bring the
farmers considerable revenue.
The turkeys are driven. to Cuero
frcm miles around, the drivers usually
starting the march a couple of
days ahead of the parade, as tur?
keys are not fast travelers. Each

which Is headed by many beautiful
floats. Statistics have been collected
which show that the turkey orop of
Texas this year will be approximately
25 per cent larger than that of last
year. This means that Texas will
ship out of her boundaries 300 carloads
of dreseed turkeys, bringing in
a total of about |4,200,000, figured at
40 cents a pound.
Some college boys make the football
team. Aud others are Just as
well satisfied to shoot seven or eleven
in a crap game.
