Ferguson has accepted a position with the mercantile firm of E. W. Kimbrell Co., and will begin work on next Monday. Mrs. Luther Falls and Miss Pearl Faulkner were guests the last week-end of Mrs. A. Crook Faris and family, of Charlotte, were visitors the last week in the home of their father, S. C. Faris, in Gold Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Horace P. Brown, of Gastonia, N. C., spent the past week in the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and *Mrs. S. W. Merritt, in this city. The local ball team met defeat at the hands of the Maysworth (N. C.) team last Saturday afternoon on the local diamond. The score was 5 to 2. William Crane, of Marvin, who prior to being called into acmy service, was employed at the plant of the Fort Mill Lumber company, has received his discharge from the service and returned home. The attraction at the Majestic Theatre today is Marguerite Clark in "Miss George Washington." This is a comedy-drama in which this dainty - actress appears at her best. The management of the theatre offers a money-back guarantee to all who see the picture and are not pleased with it. Geo. W. Potts, accompanied by Heath. Belk, left Sunday for Heudersonville, N. C., for a week's stay. Mr. Belk has been at Hendersonville during the present season, being pianist in the orchestra at that popular resort. The Baptist Young People's Union enjoyed a picnic on the banks of Catawba river last Thursday evening to which a number of their friends were invited. Misses Martha Dyches and Elizabeth Mills entertained a number of their friends Friday evening at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. J. W. H. Dyches. the occasion being in honor of Miss Elizabeth Small, of Heath Springs, who is the guest of Miss Dyches. Bruce H. Stribling, who will have charge of the agricultural department in connection with the local graded school during the ensuing year, has arrived in Fort Mill and has taken rooms in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Jones. R. G. (Peg Leg) Graham, of Sharon township, was among the visitors to Fort Mill Monday. . Asked as to how he felt, Mr. Graham replied, "just like a 20-year-old" and his looks seemed to bear out the statement. Giles White, colored, was caught Saturday afternoon in act of distilling whiskey at his home a short distance north of Rock Hill. Windle, Fort Mill men, have been drawn to serve as jurors for the first week of the September term of York court. School Opens Next Week. The Fort Mill Graded school will begin the fall session Friday morning, September 5, and on that day the pupils will be classified and assigned to, the grades. They will also be given instructions to purchase the books required which are to be obtained from the depository at the store of the Lytle Drug company. It is expected' that, the new class rooms will be ready for occupancy and that the full corps of teachers will be secured, though at this time a Latin teacher, a music teacher, and an assistant for the first grade are needed. Assembly will have to be deferred for some months until the new building, now under construction can be completed. The several departments will be in charge of the following teachers: Miss Minnie Garrison, lirst grade; Misses Agnes Link and Julia Armstrong, second grade; Miss Esther Meacham. third grade; Miss Ethel Armstrong, third and fourth grades; Miss Ruth Meacham, fourth grade; Miss Dorothy Bergstrom, fifth grade. The junior and senior high school will be in charge of the following teachers: W. H. Ward, mathematics; Miss Lana Parks, English; Miss Carolene Carothers, history. Bruce H. New Store Begins Business. The Fort Mill Cooperative association began business here last week, after taking over the stock of general merchandise hitherto owned by J. M. Brackett and will continue the business at the store room on Trade, street. Having received a \ charter from the secretary of State, a stockholders' meeting was held last week at which the. following directors were elected: M. J. Adcock, J. E. Armstrong, D. P. Blown, C. W. AlcKenzie, S. J. Collins, J. B. Froadnax, O. S. Parks and J. H. Mclntyre. These directors elected the following officers: George Fish president, T. N. Reeves vicepresident, and C. YV. Eason secretary-treasurer. M. J. Adcock has been appointed manager of the concern which begins business with a capital stock ot $8,000 approximately all ol winch has been subscribed. Captured Still Near Town. State Constable S. H. White, assisted by Constable Johnson and the local oflicers Wednesday afternoon captured a small distillery and arrested the owner, Charlie White, colored, at the latter's home, two miles south of town. Thp si ill wns nnl in operation, it being found in a barn, but several gallons of "monkey rum" were found and destroyed. The negro and his booze-making outfit were brought to town, where White attempted to obtain bond in the sum of $500, but failed and was taken to York jail to await trial.
