Charleston.?The greatest name of
the Thirtieth ("Old Hickory") division.
composed of North Carolina,
South Carolina and Tennessee, and
the brave and noble deeds which have
brought forth commendation from the
highest military authorities, are to be (
ncorporated in the records for gen- |
orations. In order that the ties of |
comradship and service, which have 1
cemented its members together, may l
net fall asunder and disappear, a J
meeting composed of all general offl- ?
cers of the division, the chief of staff,
chiefs of sections of the general staff, t
chiefs of services, and nil regimental i
and independent unit commanders, t
who represented all organizations and
all departments of the division, was
held on February 27. 1919. at Le Mans,
forwarding camp. France. At this
meeting it was unanimously decided
to form an association which would
meet each year in one of the three
states wheih this division had the
proud distinction of representing in
the great world war. Officers and enlisted
men shall equally enjoy all prlv'leges
of the association without regard
to rank or dfst'nction. The association
is organized to perpetuate
the division in the future and for the
pleasure of its members.
The association offers many advan- f
tages to its menihers. It w'll give 1
the men opportunity to see their com- fi
rades at least once a year. It will
have for the information of ita mem- "
bera a complete detailed, authentic
and official romp'lition of the history
of the division and its operations on
the western front in France and Belgium.

Confiscates Curious Weapon.
Columbia?OfTicer Ton exhibited the
latest creation in pocket guns during
the trial of Henry Freeman, who was
charged with carrying n concealed
weapon. The officer testified that he
nrrested Freeman and found the weapon
on his person.
The gun was a combination affair
and a close examination was necessary
to locate the shooting section of
the art'cle. which looked like n one
bladed knife. The weapon carried a
sharp pointed blade and the chamber
carried a *22 callhre cartr'dge. The
cartridge holder was about on inch
long and fitted in one end of the weapon.
It war. ra*sed by the finger nail
and the hammer was cocked hv pulling
a short lever, the cartridge ex- ~
ol->ded when the lever was closed. I
The kn'fe-gun was equipped with German
s'lver handles and was about
three-fourths of an inch wide by four
incheR long. The gun was loaded and
the defendant had a box of cartridges. J
