continue the treatment. When completely
restored to your usual vigor, continue
taking a capsule or two each day; they will

The following statement relative to
the impending tasks to procure better
schools was issued by John E. Sweuringen,
state superintendent of education:
"The progress of the s'-hools during ]
recent years is directly due to the
deterrnnnation of the people to educate
their children. The state depart-1

The draft act of 1918 w.ll probably

Reduction In Tax Lavy.
The. State tax levy is reduced from
ataa Jid one-half mills to eight and
a quarter mills.
This Is in accord with the act passad
at the last sasslon of the legislature
making the tax levy flexible, and
the reduction Is made possible by the
fact that the tax commission has added
at least $60,000,000 to the tax
values in the State.
This was accomplished by restoring
to the tax books certain properties
and by the increased valuations placed
upon personal and real property.
These additions to the taxfble -values
will permit not only the decrease
in the State levy but will affect the
county levies as well.
Governor Manning will bring the
matter to the attention of the county
authorities. ?
In the county supply bill passed at
the last session of the'legislature provision
was made tor flexible county
levies in resnect to the following mini.
ties: Anderson. Cherokee. Chester- |
field. Fairfield. Florence. Horry. Or ,
angeburg. Saluda. Spartanburg and |
Union. The tax levies in ttaise conn- j
ties will be adjusted accord it g to the j
increased valuation in those rountles. j
In the other counties no such pro- '
vision was made and Governor Man- i
