, The farmers say that the very
cool nights of the past week has
had a very bad effect on the cotton
crop throughout this immediate
section, and again one hears
talk of something like a half
crop this year.
Clarence Potts, the 17-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar L.
Potts, of Rock Hill, died in a
Charlotte hospital early Thursday
morning, the result of being
run down by a train in that city
Wednesday night. The remains
were taken to Rock Hill for
burial.
A meeting of the Florence
? Thornwell Chapter, U. D. C.,
has been called by the president,
Mrs. Hattie Mack, to be held
this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the
home of Mrs. R. F. Grier, on
Clebourn street. This is the
first of the fall meetings of the

Much needed repairs have been
made during the past week to
Bailes' bridge across Sugar
creek and traffic was stopped
between Pleasant Valley and
Fort Mill for several days. The
bridge was put in passable condition,
however. Saturday and
it is expected that the repairs
will be completed this week.
Fort Mill was called on Saturday
for a special subscription of
$100 for Y. M. C. A. war work,
its quota of a fund of $75,000
required to be raised in the
Southern States for equipping
the plant at Blue Ridge, N. C.,
and a check was mailed on the
same day the appeal was received
for the full amount asked
for.

moving with his family to Carhartt
station, three miles south
of Fort Mill. Mr. Patterson is
to assume the superintendency of
the big Carhartt plantation and
stock farm near Carhartt, succeeding
Mr. Fred Poag, who
goes to a big farm in Greenwood
county.
A letter received a few days
ago by a friend of one of the
Fort Mill soldier boys in France,
stated that the company had recently
received a great batch of
first-class mail, as well as numerous
copies of The Times, The
Enquirer and other State newspapers.
and that there was little
time for other things than routine
camp duty until each piece
of mail had been carefully read
and passed on to a fellow comrade.
Mr. and Mrs. \V. F. Harris on
Friday received by wire the distressing
news of the death at
Graniteville of their little 3-yearold
grandson, William Wesley
Reardon, eldest son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Reardon. The child
had been ill but a few days of
diphtheria and the announcement
of its death came as a great
shock to its grandparents and
i friends of the family in this city.
A most pleasant social occasion
was enjoyed Friday afternoon

her home on Clebourne street in
